I haven't had Whataburger in 5 years, and I stumbled on this Tweet: Is Whataburger bad now? Does Private Equity kill everything it touches?
I mean, it's a fast food burger. Wasn't top shelf to begin with but when you can go somewhere clean and service oriented like Chick Fila why spend money and time in Whataburger? And it isn't 8 bucks for a meal anymore either, if you're spending 15er on a burger go somewhere good. I saw they do boneless wings now? Bruh go to wingstop.
Dobson sold at the peak. Burgers across the board are struggling. Much like how Popeyes sold when bone-in chicken started to tread downwards.
i havent noticed a drop-off in quality. i think its more about the individual restaurants...some are better/cleaner than others. i just know which ones to avoid in my area. taco cabana was like that for me too back in the day. some were top-notch and some were nasty.
Yes - When Whataburger came to middle Tennessee recently it was exciting for me because that's what I had often when I lived in Houston- They opened up all these new burger restaurants and at first it was a massive big deal with long lines like it was chik fil a - I got my combo and I was like OK why did I get in line because it doesn't seem to be all that ... Maybe my taste have changed but I distinctly remember it was better quality 1990s I'm glad this thread came up because I guess this confirms my suspicion that it's not as good as it used to be
Agreed, it depends on where the restaurant is, I have a Whataburger by my work that's in a bad area and it's not good, but the one up by my house is in a good part of town and its great. I notice this with all fast food places and the way prices are now I won't go to the bad ones if I know better. I did read where several chains are coming down on price, the price gouging over the past few years is catching up to them...............along with Walmart and Target
It still wrecks most burger chains but some locations/times are better than others. The prices continue to creep.
The prices are making it harder to go, but I haven't seen a drop off on the things I would normally get. I don't get any of their new stuff, and basically only stick to burgers. Wish they'd bring back the A1 thick n hearty though.
I’ve eaten at the one in Murfreesboro about 4 times but I never felt like I was eating a burger as good as In-N-Out (Yes, I have eaten at In-N-Out back when I used to have to travel for a job I had a long time ago). Five Guys actually has the best burgers but you are going to have to pay about twice the price. The last time I went to Whataburger, the manager came out and asked me if what I had eaten “was the greatest burger ever!!” I was somewhat amused by his hubris and said “Oh sure!” I haven’t been back since.
I wouldn't go as far as to say it's bad, I had it yesterday when a co-worker offered to pick some up and it was fine. I do feel like they skimp on the condiments a bit now unless you ask for extra. And they still won't bring back the chophouse cheddar burger!!
I get a Patty Melt every few months and it's the GOAT of fast-food burgers. Maybe some of their other products have gone downhill. But these prices now...charging restaurant burger prices for a fast-food burger can make them seem worse. At Chili's you can get an appetizer, Smashburger, side item, and a drink for $10.99.
My go-to location has been just as good as it has always been. I think across the entire board when it comes to chains is that there is no consistency from location to location anymore. Whatever it is, if you find a good location stick to it.
No. I feel FatBurger is more in line with what Five Guys offers. There is no one out there that is like WAB.
