I know it's really early to tell, but is anyone else concerned about Wesley's shooting woes?

He really lost his shooting touch during the playoffs last year which really hurt us. Coming off a offseason knee surgery, he's shooting a terrible 26% FG and .83% from 3-pt land!!

I'm confident that his shooting will improve once he gets his legs under him, but at his age, it could take a lot longer than expected and could possibly not be able to handle a 82 game season plus playoffs.

Not really concerned because if he can't shoot then he'll have his ass glued on the bench behind DA and Barry. Wesley really shouldn't be someone we have to count on.

I think Wesley will get less minutes than he did last year but I'm sure he'll start finding his shots again once he gets those wide open looks when defenses collapse on Tmac and Yao in a REGULAR season game. Having said that, sooner or later Head may eat into his minutes if he slots in to the SG position. Head looks more like a gunner type PG who can spell Alston off the bench. He's a little small for a in SG in my opinion but I suppose JVG will play him there more often than not?

Head will be our next Sam Cassell. I remember Cassell in his rookie year ..he was a poised, confident rookie but hogged the ball a bit too much. I don't think JVG would allow that to happen though.

I don't see Head as a ball hog.. he shoots when he's open. Besides, he'll play more as an offguard.

of course he'll get better...high schoolers can shoot better then 26% considering they are mostly wide open shots...if he doesnt..it'll give Luther Head the minutes he deserve..

Wesley should be the one worried about his shooting. He's got DA and Head sniping for his minutes.

I'm concerned because Wesley is very valuable to us when he hits his shots. I'd be more worried if we didn't have DA or Luther. We need Wesley to eat some minutes at SG over the long season to keep Barry, Luther & DA fresher for the playoff run. And you never know, one of those other guys could go down.

Since I think he will eventually get it going, it isn't a big deal because our depth at SG will take up the slack for now.

If Wesley isn't too small to play at the 2, then Head sure isn't. Sure looks like to me that Head has earned some minutes during the regular season. And it also looks like Anderson should start at the 2 with Rafer based on what has happened so far. Wesley still has some good defensive and streaky shooting in him but I don't think Van Gundy is gonna play him major minutes if he doesn't hit shots. I look for Van Gundy to let him get off a couple shots and see if he is hot or not. If he misses then I would think Van Gundy would pull him pretty fast in favor of either Anderson or Head. Too many other players that can hit the shots now to linger on with a player in a shooting slump. That goes for any of the rest too. If Anderson starts a cold streak shooting, I look for his minutes to decrease until he can work it out in practice. Defensively, the same principle. If somebody gets burned a couple times, I think Van Gundy will pull them quick and go with someone else, outside of adjusting defensive strategy. So Wesley may be able to earn minutes back by doing the job defensively.

I'm not real worried about Wesley as long as Head and Anderson are playing well.

How can he shoot 0.83% from the 3s in 3 preseason games? Has he launched over 100 treys as of yet? That would definitely be a huge concern to me if that's the case.

How did you conclude he shot over 100 3s by shooting .83%?

    Well said.

Plus Sura is a natural 2guard and hopefully return and contribute.

I expect Wesley to gravitate to his career average so I am not concerned. I would expect that since Head has been a pleasant surprise to JVG and this may be Wesley's last year in a Rox uni that as the year progresses, Head will be getting more playing time at the SG position.

I am not concerned about the team because there are plenty of people in line waiting to take over thanks to our mgt's moves this summer. I do hope DW can put on a good show long enough to bring good value at trade deadline though. We have so many guns this year the loss of Wesley and Sura which normally might be devestating is hardly noticable.

A .83% equates to Wesley making 1 shot out of over 100 attempts. I'm sure you're not saying 83% because I'm sure everyone would love that. Maybe he is shooting 8.3% which means making 1 shot out of over 10 attempts?

Simple math. Percentage CANNOT dip below 1% unless it's over 1 out 100 (e.g., even 1 out of 25 is still 4%, 1 out of 50 is 2%, etc.). Actually, 1 out of 121 gives you .83%.

Without even looking it up, I can solve this. The .83% is a typo and he meant 8.3% because Wesley must be 1/12 from 3 pt.

And how do you feel about the idea of Head guarding Kobe or Wade or Paul Pierce or Ray Allen or Ginoboli or Jason Richardson ... ???
