Is Van Dumby the reason we can't get any good players? --- Horry thinks so

Seems like ever since Mr. Dumby became a Rocket we have not been able to sign any good free agents.

    Mike James
    Damon Stoudamire

When Rudy (famous for being a player's coach, though he had other faults) was here, superstars like Barkley, Pippen and Clyde were dying to play with us. Seems like we could get players below market value.

But Grumpy has messed all of that up. Honestly, why would anyone actually want to play for his ass?

My friends (including teeloo and heydude from this site) were at Belvedere this past weekend and ran into Horry and his posse. When the club was about to close heydude started talking to Horry for a few minutes.

He asked Horry if he would be willing to sign with the Rockets.

Horry's response, "Yeah, you guys have that coach that not many people are fond of".

My friend (who also knows what a b*stard and a loser Dumpy is) then asked Horry if that is the reason we might lose out on Mike James or other good free agents.

Horry's response, "Well I wouldn't want to play for him and personally know quite a few players who would never want to play for Gundy either".

Take all of that for what it's worth.

I just think as long as that idiot is our coach we are going to have to overpay for players for them to come here.

    FIRE GUNDY!

Except that every player who says they "never want to play for him" have never actually played for him.

Meanwhile, guys who went to war with him and won... will stand by him till the day he's finished.

Something tells me those players have a more informed opinion, than the one shared by other players that's more media driven than anything else.

It may be a moot point in 10 months. We miss playoffs again, he's gone. We got canned in the first round, he's gone.

What ROckets03 just wrote is just about true. I talked to Horry, and when I asked him about wether he would even consider the Rockets, he shook his head RIGHT AWAY........his response, you guys have a coach over there that is...........

I mean think about the things Gundy has done since joining us: Made us older, killed our depth , traded respected veterans to hell (Jim Jackson), and cut yet others who deserved to play (Jon Barry, Derek Anderson)......all this while trading away all of our young assets......

I was honestly expecting James to not sign with us....y would he? he was actually on 610, 97.9, 790 and all the radio stations weeks before the regular season boasting about our chances to win a championship last year.....and Gumpy promply traded him the next week........this is his way of screwing us in the ass......i definitely dont blame him, and neither will i ever boo him.......he is NO Beltran at all.........the only person to boo here is GUNDY

    Fire Les Alexander..
    Hire me as the owner..

i'd hire Mario or Scottie Brooks as the next Rockets coach
or the door is always open for Rudy T to get his job back

Why does this thread come up now and not Sunday? I question the credibility. And wtf does Horry know about JVG? He can't even read.

We arent going to miss the playoffs next season. With a healthy Tmac and Yao we will surley make it. If we get Marcus Banks or Fred Jones this will be a good offseason. I'd prefer Jones but Banks is good to. Go Rockets!!!

I talked to the restroom attendant at the St James Club and he doesn't like Van Gundy either.

Oh since you (the mighty docgundy himself!) question the credibility it must not be true!

I'm guessing Horry knows just a tad bit more then most of us around here. Him being an actual NBA player and all.

I hate Van Gundy as much as everybody but everybody that has played for Van Gundy has liked him and respected him. McGrady, Yao, Spree etc.

Van Dumby is the reason why Yao wouldn't sign the long term extension with Houston and CD couldn't get TMac to agree to a trade here!

Are you serious? Where should I begin?

He made us older because we had idiots (ie Francis, Mobley, Maurice) on the team.

And the vets were huge reasons why we were successful despite the crap talent we had.

Killed our depth? Injuries did that my friend, not JVG.

Cut others who deserved to play? Haha. Barry was freakin' injured. He himself said he couldn't play. DA, the man would rather go to Kentucky to rehab and look at their doctors than working his ass off on the court (like Sura) for a pussyass injury. DA is so freakin' lazy. And his shooting pct. was horrendous for us. He couldn't nail a 3 to save his calf.

Trading away all our young assets? Name one. Nachbar? Lampe? Mike Wilks?

And Van Gundy traded James? Buddy, James said the month before there was no chance he'd return to the Rockets if they don't offer him significant money. The trade was a steal if anything at all. We have our pg for the future. Yes, Alston had a down year last season because he and the 2 stars were injured, but you'll see this season why we made the trade. Furthermore, Bob Sura had emergency surgery the day before we traded James, so the deal makes sense in the end.

Horry goes by what other people say, and the knock around JVG is that he's a tough cookie. That knock started with Phil back in 1997 because JVG was suffocating MJ, and Phil didn't like it, saying his style should be made illegal. It caught on with a lot of players and fans because they wanted to see Mike win. JVG came to Houston, and we had idiots on our team who hated him and since leaving have done jack squat on their respective teams.
