I preface this with I am 31 so my memory only goes back so far.

All three major sports teams are/have been playing subpar.

The only bright spot is the constant deals about tickets out there.

Can anyone think of a worse time sports wise for the city of Houston?

You could change "year" to "era" and it may fit.

Between the Rockets, Astros, and Texans, there has been what? 3 playoff appearances in the last 5 years?

    Ghastly.

Houston sports after 2005 has pretty much been a cruel joke.

2000 was pretty crappy but the Rockets and Astros had direction...not sure what we have now.

Astros - They seem to know where they are going but it will be a LONG road back.

Rockets - Ask me after the deadline what I think of them.

    Texans - Pretty self-explanatory.

Well, the Rockets saved 94 and 95 when the f'n Oilers left.

The late 90s would have really, really sucked, what with no football, except the Astros were really, really good and the Rockets were still pretending to contend having traded their entire bench for Sir ******.

The 70s sucked. The Oilers and the Astros sucked. I don't remember much about the Rockets.

    1983 was bad record wise

    Oilers were a terrible 2-14
    Rockets were 29-53
Astros were well over .500, but still finished 3rd.

I remember watching those Ed Biles Oilers on Channel 2, after the Bill Yeoman show (Cougars were 4-7 that year) so yeah as a Oiler/Cougar/Rockets/Astros fan 1983 sucked a long one.

Fortunately I turned 13 that year, so I was beginning to discover some non-sports forms of entertainment.

Early 80's , like 1982, were generally terrible, as all teams were sub .500. UH Phi Slamma Jamma was the best game in town

82 sucked so bad after 80 and 81. But, at least you had Tony Scott's hair and Joe Sambito's hair. That was an epic year for hair.

Year wise, absolutely. Throw in the Dynamo collapse in '10 and the disappointing UH season (no reason to include Rice as it was a typical season) and 2010 was probably the worst Houston sports year ever.

Era wise, Donny is right. Since '05, it's been a hard lesson in patience for Houston sports fans.

The 70s weren't kind at all to the Rockets. They played their games at Hofheinz Pavilion to mostly empty houses. I recall one game where there was only 200 folks in attendance. On another night, the few fans at the game got so angry at the pitiful play, they started throwing glass on the court nearing hitting Calvin Murphy. In 1975, they moved to the Summit but it was a constant struggle to get fans in the seats. I recall ticket promotions with Rainbow Bread where we'd get a free ticket if we brought along an empty Rainbow bread wrapper.

Early 70s versions of the Astros and the Oilers were very bad. The 70s Rockets weren't good as well, iirc, especially after trading the Big E.

Here's another tidbit: Tex Winter who was the coach didn't like Elvin Hayes' basketball skills saying that Hayes had "the worst fundamentals of any player" he had ever coached. He then traded Elvin who had led the Rockets in scoring for the past 4 years to the Baltimore Bullets where he won an NBA title. For those keeping score, Hayes was traded for Jack Marin.

It's been a long time, that's for sure.

82-83 was the last time we had all 3 established pro teams below .500, but at least that year we had Phi Slamma Jamma to root for.

Astros, have what appears to be direction but ownership is in limbo. Yes long term that change is good but now I don't expect them to sniff playoffs.

Rockets, smart GM and Front office, owner that want's to win but they need to catch lightning in a bottle to get some star power in here.

Texans, key players in place but I don't trust Kubiak I think until he is gone no playoff wins (maybe a playoff appearance or two)

I'm only 19 and truly started following Houston sports after the Astro's runs of 2004/2005. Ever since I've become a die hard the teams have been faltering.

I still believe that the Texans are on the rise even after this disappointing year and a team that I believe I can still invest my hopes in.

The Astros will always be my favorite over the Rockets/Texans. Baseball is just a joy to watch even if your team isn't the best. Its Americas sport.

Rockets I feel are on the border of being great again soon. Or completely falling off the map, which they are on the verge of doing.

But in my short sports history this has definitely been one of the worst years.

Even Texas sucked this season (which could of been expected). Couple that with Keenum going down for the Coogs and it was horrendous in all aspects.

You can even throw in the Dynamo (who have been among the elite soccer teams since they have been here), they finished almost dead last this season

a very disappointing year in sports

Not anymore. Football rules this country. The ratings, money, and attendance all back that up.

It's probably been one of the worst eras since I startred watching sports.

One lone thing made this year bearable, and that's the success TCU had in 2010.

I've spent more money on sports related crappy this past year than I've ever spent.
