The only possible hole I see in this team is a legit starting SG that can catch and shoot the bomb and can defend either the 2 or 3, whichever is the better player and relieve TMac of a little bit of defensive responsibility so that he can get some small spells on the defensive end and stay on the floor longer for offense. The SGs are adequate when you combine their skills. But wouldn't it be nice to have one guy that could play the defense and hit the 3 ball for us to go along with TMac and Rafer? Early speculation. Who will be available and who will we be willing to give up to get them?
You could say backup PG, but that would be picky. Between Moochie, Sura, and Head, I'm sure somebody will eventually step up into that role. In my opinion, the only thing keeping this team from a championship is Yao's fouls. Yao needs to average 38 minutes in every playoff game, but fouls prevent that. It's obvious to all that the refs call a lot of little fouls on Yao while letting other players murder him on the other end, and that's a problem. But Yao needs to help himself by cutting down on those little fouls. He's trying to be the BIG MAN who clogs the lane and blocks everything, but he just doesn't have the speed and/or the knack for that, so ends up getting into bad positions and fouling. He needs to accept his limitations and be less active on defense. Because on offense, if he gets a good entry pass, the other team has no answer for him and he changes the game. I really hope that JVG demands less from Yao on help defense this year.
just as a guess, moochie and wesley's ending deals will be more valuable at the deadline. i looked at all the players that would work cap wise if traded for either wesley or moochie. here is the list of players that would help IMO. we may not have a chance at some, may not really want others, but here it is. for moochie: arroyo Hassell Bell out of these players, bell is probably not on the block. we might have a really good shot at hassell who is a very good wing defender. for wesley: snow watson marquis daniels fisher hudson jaric b.barry AD out of these players, AD, jaric, and watson were just signed and therefor probably not on the block. wesley for snow is a bad move. wesley for fisher is lateral. cuban will never give us daniels for wesley, and the spurs will never give us barry. we might have a really good shot at hudson. come to think of it...hudson and hassell both play for the wolves. if they want to get out of some bad contracts (since they aren't going anywhere anytime soon) wesley and moochie for hassell and hudson could make sence for both teams.
I would see Marquis Daniels with the Rockets uniform ..but I think they're pretty strong this year that's one sure thing.
100% agree. During the heated debates we had here during the summer after last season ended, I said that SG was our #2 need. (A new starting PG was #1). I was part of the "vocal minority". What you say above sums it up very well. The 3 pt shooter by committee works OK, but we would be better if we had one player who could toss in 20-30 points a few times when defenses key too much on Yao & T-Mac. Maybe DA will be that player somehow. Maybe Luther will develop into that in the next year or two.
What about some sort of S&T with Spree and Hudson coming in for DWes and Moochie? I was thinking about this yesterday. I still think Spree has a couple years left in the tank and he definitely has the defensive tenacity that Van Gundy wants. The only thing about his game though is he is more of a slasher/driver. I'm not for sure how much he helps us with the catch and shoot. Of course, with the rule changes regarding perimeter contact, and the success of players like Ginobili in creating the contact with the constant dribble drive penetration, he may be a perfect fit.
ya id agreed we're missin a ring as well but i also think we are missing a good color commentator bullard/drexler suck!
no thanks to spree... hudson uhm isn't his contract as large as fisher's? if that was the case i'd take fisher over hudson.. but the way head is lookin ... woah...
Well, we haven't yet seen Swift, so perhaps this will change, but right now I'm a bit concerned about our rebounding. Other than that I think we look good. I agree we need a ring and a new color commentator though. I love both Drexler and Bullard as players, hate em' as color commentators. They just aren't very colorful.
