Murray is in full rehab and is pulling 600 pound sleds. Look at his stats over 4 continuous seasons - no problems there. Watch this brief 4 minute video for some highlight footage. He throws some nice passes including one rolling to his left and off balance into the endzone in tight coverage as well as some long throws on the fly on the numbers. Watching him makes one think he has some serious potential - he plays in a pro style offense in the tough SEC. Take the first three picks for other needs and trade up to grab him. Let him sit behind Fitz for half a season until his leg is fully healed and give him a shot.
I've heard some people who are high on Murray, the real quality of this draft is the depth at different positions specifically QB.
He may be underrated, but the problem with this theory/line of thinking is that Matthew Stafford actually kind of sucks.
Sure his timing and accuracy could be improved but someone who has been second only to Drew Brees in passing yards the last three seasons can't be all that bad. Can you offer more than just that he "sucks"?
You just cannot draft a QB expecting to get the next Peyton Manning. It's impossible. All you can do is open yourself up to the possibility of greatness, and then you let the man handle the rest. If you think one of these QB's not in the first round has the potential to get to that plateau of Stafford/Kaepernick/Roethlisberger/Flacco then you pull the trigger. Because you can't control the outcome, all you can do is control the probability and make sure that you don't bet your entire pot on the one pick. That's the entire rationale behind drafting a QB outside the first round. I would be fine with Murray.
If we are not taking a QB with the first pick, Im totally fine with waiting until the 3rd/4th to take Murray.
Ain't no way in hell. At best, he would be battling Garoppolo, McCarron, and Mettenberger for 5th best. He wasn't rated that highly before the draft. AND he's another QB who has to battle the "Small QB" stigma (6'1", 207) but he doesn't have Manziel's athleticism or Bridgewater's football IQ to make up for it. Could be a decent mid-late round pick, but he was never going to be a Top QB in this draft.
^^^This. Peyton Mannings and Tom Brady's don't come along too often so what any good team will do is coach and train to the best of their ability and give their QB every chance to succeed by surrounding them with talent. The best way to find top talent is to draft them because there ain't too many teams gonna let go of their Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Andrew Luck.
The sleeper quarterback in this draft might be Tom Savage. He's 6'5 230 and reportedly has a "howitzer" for an arm. There's been a lot of buzz going on about him here lately. I think that's who O'Brien has his eye on... http://withthefirstpick.com/2014/03/27/2014-nfl-draft-scouting-report-tom-savage-qb-pittsburgh/ http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...age-the-best-qb-prospect-youve-never-heard-of
