Mavs are shooting about 35 percent this series so far...

I know the Spurs are a tough defensive team, but it seems to me the Mavs are doing such a poor job of offensive execution.

At times, the Spurs are switching on the pick n rolls and guys like Avery Johnson and Terry Porter are guarding Nowitzki and Finley. They are settling for 16 foot turnarounds.

Nash is playing like a dog. I can't believe some people think he is better than Steve Francis.

After watching this series, I have to conclude the Rockets are a better team than the Mavs. We'd certainly give a better fight than this.

It is the Spurs D. They did the same thing to Minny and they will do the same thing to LA. LA is going to need Ho Grant to step up big when Duncan doubles on Shaq, because the perimeter is going to be locked up.

The Spurs are very good defensively, but that is mostly due to their ability to play an illegal defense that never seems to get called. Remember the Sonics back during the Kemp Karl era? They always stifled the Rockets with their zone, but it was never called.

Spurs can do the same thing. It allows Duncan and Robinson to sit in the lane, shutting down all layups and penetration. On top of this, their perimeter defenders are very fast on rotations, so most outside 3-pointers that are open against other teams are completely shut-down by San Antonio.

To be honest, I don't think the Spurs play any more illegal D than any other NBA team.

What really miffs me is how a team which starts Danny Ferry and Terry Porter can be the #1 defensive team in the NBA.

I realize that they have the twin towers, but you would think a team which relies on 2 old, slow footed geezers like Porter and Ferry as their starters, would be exposed at some point or another.

The Mavs also shot very poorly against Utah all series, so I'm inclined to think the Lakers are going to dissect this "awesome" Spurs defense. No way that Kerr and AJ can shut down Kobe on switches like they are doing to Michael Finley.

Or shall I call him Michael Starks after last night's 5-21 performance.
