Contrary to what you might think after you read this, I felt terrible about this (as did my friend when he was in the same situation) I went to Dunkin Donuts this morning to get my coffee like I do everyday. Normally, I know 80% of the people by face just because I'm there at pretty much the exact same time everyday. well, the line there is usually pretty long and I was about 10 people away from the counter and this middle-eastern guy walked in. He looked all disheveled and was talking on a cell phone in another language. With that, me and about 4 or 5 other people left the Dunkin Donuts. I called my buddy and told him the story. He said a similar thing happened to him over the weekend at a restaurant in NYC. It wasn't a guy talking on a cell phone...it was 3 middle eastern looking guys who walked in the restaurant not really dressed appropriately for that particular restaurant. He said over a dozen people, including himself left. We both felt bad afterwards but thought that if confronted with the same type of situation again, we would probably both react the same way. I'm sure I'll be called a racist for this, but truth is, these days you never know.
well, look at it this way. If the Dunkin Donut employees had joined you rather than serving him a donut, that is pretty much proven in court to be regarded as "racism."
Don't feel bad just don't do it again! That's totally prejudicial man.... and donuts are BAD for you anyhow!
very funny but scary if every american start to think like u then what is going to happan to all the middle eastern peoples that live in america , but on the other side no one want to willing to risk his life to find out if his stereotype is true or false so i really dunno what to think here , just lucky i dunt live in america .
Boy, when I heard they were going for soft sites, I wasn't even thinking about cake donuts! Apparently, what you really need to look for are nicely groomed, professional looking guys. So basically any Middle-eastern dude you see in Manhattan should cause you to run the other way at full speed ... until, of course, you quickly encounter the next one. Man, you are going to be tired! But definitely in tip-top shape.
well, "if every american started to think like him," we'd have disheveled, scruffy, ME-looking people on cellphones in Dunkin Donuts running away from their own shadow. Now *that* would be "very funny."
"Why take a chance?" A chance at what? Did you think he would take you, the donut guy, & the freaking apple fritters out? Yes, Al-Qaeda's master plan: annhilate all Bavarian Cream Filled's & those who eat them... Do you know what language he was speaking? Are you a linguistic expert? Maybe he was speaking Turkish, maybe Hebrew... Do you know what country he was from? Do you even know where the Middle East is? Our allies Turkey & Israel are in the Mid-East. Hell, so is Cyprus. Nice judgment call there bud. "He looked Middle Eastern" - stupid. IT'S A FREAKING DONUT SHOP! Did you expect him to roll in dressed like Bond & speak in clear, unaccented English? For Christ's sake man! Last time I walked into a donut shop, I was wearing sweatpants, a wife beater, and probably reeked of the beer bender I'd been on the night before. Talk about overreaction - I would hate to live anywhere near your ass. You're probably the kind of guy that would call 1-800-Tips to bring the feds in on some neighbor messing w/ his propane grill - for fear that he was building a dirty bomb. Oh, unless that neighbor happened to be someone well dressed & didn't look "Middle Eastern."
This is like constantly being worried you see a dorsal fin in the water at the beach. The chances of you being caught in a terrorist attack in America are actually FAR FAR less than you being killed by a meteorite or having a plane crash on your house. The incredible hype surrounding terrorist acts after 9/11 has people flinching at their own shadow. Timothy McVeigh blew up an entire building. Do you duck out of Dunkin' Donuts when you see a young white guy? I don't think you need to feel like a racist, but I do think you need to consider the fact that you may be overexaggerating the problem to the point of needless anxiety.
I did something similar the other night when I was at a gas station on my way back to Houston. I saw 2 very strange looking white males who just gave me a bad vibe. My son and the Mrs were in the car and I was walking into the gas station at the same time they were to get us a drink and pay for my gas. There were 2 other people in the station, yet I acted as though I had forgotten something in my car and went back to the car and proceeded to the next station simply b/c I just had an odd feeling. BTW, I am white as well, so if that is racist, I must hate me. In light of the world we live in, sometimes you just react a little differently than you would have maybe a few years back. You can't live in total fear of everyone and everything, but I think you have to go with your gut b/c it only has to gappen once.
Cmon Jeff, not nearly the same thing. If the terrorists we were concerned with were white guys with crewcuts, then yes.
That's the point I would make also, you have to remember where you are. What is the point of taking out a Dunkin Donuts? On the otherhand, a mall, a night club, which seems to be a typical target oversees, I don't what to say about a similar situation in a crowded places like that. But I guess, what I would really recommend is unless you see something obvious, you shouldn't even think about it. Its not like there is a terrorist attack once a week. What are the chances of you being around one?
No worries NJ is was a donut shop *HELLO* cops were everywhere! on a similar note... This past weekend a white comedy club patron brought me a barbeque chicken that he had prepared himself. He said that it was the only thing that he could offer me because I'd given him a free CD a few nights before. He was sincere but, I was still pissed. Realizing that the problem WAS with me, I calmed thanked him for the gesture then prepared me a sammich
"hey burrito boy..if i want anymore sh*t out of you , i'll squeeze your head" You continue to show your own ignorance. You especially do so w/ this statement: "Cmon Jeff, not nearly the same thing. If the terrorists we were concerned with were white guys with crewcuts, then yes." Bull***t. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it just a few years ago that the media was filling our heads w/ the dangers of the evil gun-nut/right-wing militias running rampant across our countryside, blowing up federal building & such? I guess the white, crew cut headed terrorists have repented & gone back to their jobs as Wal-Mart greeters. No, we're no longer concrened w/ the guys who killed all those people in OKC. Not at all. Right.
maybe u should ask what a person live in isreal feel n think when they see a palestinian in a restaurant....
