You need to pay at least $100 for an operating system, so that brings the total to 750. In addition, the processor is outdated. You can probably find a better deal on HP or Dell website.

You could probably do better if you're patient. I'm waiting on a deal myself so I'd pass on that one you were offered.

A while back 650 got you

    Quad Core processor Q6600
    2GB of DDR2 667 (max 4GB)
    160GB SATA HD
    16X DL DVD Writer
    PCI-E 8300GS
375W PS that is certified to run the 8800GTS OC graphics card for gaming.
    XP home or Vista

This was from Dell too. It was their Dimension 9200

Damn, thanks alot for the heads up. This board continues to amaze.

Only prob is that I still need a desktop under 700 that can play some of the newer games coming out.

Anyone know of any nice machines out there?

Go to dell, they have a lot of good deals. Just picked up 2 Athlon 64, 1bg memory, 100GB Hard drive, slim line computers with 19 inch wide screen monitors for about 479.00. These were for office computers and do they job nicely.

They have these type of specials all the time if you want just a nice computer for the house.

Do you really need 1G of RAM and a 200G hard drive?

If you can come down on those numbers, costs go down rapidly.

Hell, my laptop only has 256 RAM and a 2G hard drive, and I've never needed any more than that yet.

No monitor but the processor in that setup alone is 280-300 bucks so that was a pretty good deal at the time. I kick myself in the butt for passing on it.

With these specs you can game a little bit or just upgrade the video card for a lot cheaper than what that guy is charging.

But if you want more power in the Processor your gonna pay more.

Damn are you still running windows 98 too? You can't get anything to run XP or Vista right with 256mb or ram let alone a 2GB hard drive....

Huh? I'm running XP right now. Maybe I got my specs wrong. I went to properties and that's what it said. I don't know much, but I'd like to learn what all those things mean.

A "new vid game card" doesn't really tell you if you can game or not. I would suggest googling some benchmarks from different tech sites like hardocp, anandtech, or even tomshardware. A bigger model number designation doesn't mean faster, and the companies want to mislead you into that, so benchmarks are the only way to know what's the better bang for your buck.

I got a similar system like the one you mentioned 4 years ago for 1100 from a Dell deal. I think you can you can do better with 600 bucks.

I'd build one if I were you. Or find someone who can build it for you; you get a whole lot more value if you build it yourself.

If you are running it, with those specs your running the bare minimums...definitely a memory upgrade could help you out a bit.

Jesus christ man, a 2 GB HD? You sure you don't mean a 2GHz processor? I don't think they've made 2GB hard drives for at least 6 or 7 years.

Running XP on 256 megs of RAM is pretty much the bare minimum. It would be impossible to play most games or do any type of multi tasking with that much memory. 1GB is as low as you want to go on any new system these days, with 2GB being fairly common.
