Is there such a thing as a wireless speaker system?

I really don't know much about hi-fi stuff. I have a ton of music on my computer and I was wondering if there is something like wireless speakers (bluetooth?), like a surround sound system...so that I could just put these things up somewhere in the apartment and use the computer to play music.

Maybe I am not even describing it right.

I just don't want to have tons of cables everywhere.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I thot they already had something like tht, everytime someone in the store comes and asks me for something like what SJC asked, i just point towards the back corner to home audio. i mean it seems reasonable. And most probably it would just send out like a radio frequency that your speakers would pickkup... i dunno what im talkin about so dont listento a word of this randomly idiotic post

Ive seen wirless speakers at Home Depot and places like that, so they do make them.

Not sure about the quality. I would be skeptical, especially if you have cordless phones and wirless internet in your house.

We have some wireless outdoor speakers at my house in Sugarland. So they do exist.

Sony makes a small system, that is wireless. I didn't think they sounded all that good though.

I recently bought a Gateway Connected DVD player. It is also a wireless client which will play media files (MP3, WMA, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DVR-MS, JPEG, etc) that are stored on your computer. I have it hooked up as a component to my stereo and connected to my TV. SO far it works great. For optimum performance, you need an 802.11g wireless set up, but music will probably do just fine with 802.11b (it's the video that needs the higher bandwidth). The system came with a wireless card and the total cost was $199.

It also plays DVDs, CDs, MP3 CDs, VCD, SVCD and JPEG CDs.
