Ever since the landry trade, hayes has really been in a funk, his defense has really slipped, I feel like he is not moving well, and not really hustling as much as usual.
true i noticed that he has really not gelled ever since the trade deadline for some reason and his minutes have decreased as well ..but to bo honest i rather sea jordan hill than him so that he can develop
I don't think there's anything wrong with Chuck, I think the problem is that he's being asked to guard NBA centers on a nightly basis. The scouting report finally got out all the way around the league: You can't outmuscle Chuck or go around him, but you can easily shoot straight over him. Once he goes back to coming off the bench to stop certain kinds of power forwards, he will do great again. In the meantime, we should consider starting Jordan Hill against teams with tall, scoring centers. Hill is not a center either, but at least he has the height, wingspan, and hops to contest their shots.
I think it's time for Hill to take Hayes' minutes, I love his heart and hustle but too many deficits with his game and the biggest one is his lack of heights!
I have no idea what's up with Chuck. Seems like he's getting into early foul trouble a lot lately. I thought he would mesh well with Martin and actually gain playing time but that has not panned out at all.
There was talk of him having a injury before the trade. But really, I am thinking more teams now realize that you can't out muscle Hayes and either have to shoot over him or out maneuver him. Hayes was quick, can't quite keep up with the physical quickness of some of the NBA's younger up and coming big men.
I love Chuck, but he is really struggling out there. There is no way you can question his commitment but big tall centers are finding it easy to shoot over him.
I think it's fatigue. I remember when he was playing significant minutes under JVG he also had fatigue problems, as he has to use so much strength to compensate for his size.
Well, the Rockets have already played 60 games and I'm sure he's pretty beat up because of all the beating he gets from bigger players he have to guard.
Chuck will do a lot better next season when gets to play again with Yao. That way he can be the PF he needs to be and not a center.
I've notice this as well but JVG pointed it out on national television last year during the playoffs. You can't back down Chuck Hayes. You have to shoot over him to be effective.
He did a very good job against Andray Blatche the other night. Chuck is too small to guard 7 ft centers with the skill set that Brook Lopez has, Jordan Hill was slightly more effective and I believe it was mostly (or solely) b/c of his length.
I think the knee is really bothering him but he's trying to play through it. He looks like he's gimping around at times when he's out there
Chuck Hayes doesn't get worse. Everyone else gets better. Oh wait ... that's not how I wanted that to come out.
