Isn't the deadline today for the Pist-Grizz draft dealing? Must we wait til the 4th for news on #18? What news? What news? (These are trades and picks -- so is the right forum?)

    Guess there's no news.

Well, then how about this scenario in regard to the Pist-Grizz dilemma:

Bulls send #4 and Brad Miller to Houston.
Rockets send #13, #18 and KT to Grizz; Cato to the Bulls.
Grizz send SAR and #13 to the Bulls and #27 to Houston.

Bulls have SAR, Cato and #13
Griz has #13 (to Bulls), #18 (to Pistons, KT for PF need and still draft #6
Rockets end up with #4 (Diop or Brown), #22 (Cisse) and #27 (Morris).

    Does that work?

Detroit has been lobbying Orlando, apparently offering Chucky Atkins in some kind of trade consideration. Vancouver has to act today, Orlando has until Monday to convey the pick to us. My hope is that we get the pick on Monday.

    enbehay,
    Here is a better scenario:

    Bulls send #4 to Houston
Bulls send Brad Miller to Vancouver
Rockets send #13, KT & Cato to Bulls
Rockets send #18 if we get it (must be conveyed to Detroit by midnight tonight)and Williams to Vancouver
    Vancouver sends #27 to Bulls
    Vancouver sends SAR to Houston

Bulls have #13, #27 KT and Cato
Vancouver has Miller, Williams and conveys #18 to Detroit
Rockets have #4 & SAR (NOTE: may have to have Vancouver resign SAR to a bigger $ contract to work with the cap for Williams)

    Rocks eliminate SF draft priority

Rocks draft for a center (Diop probably at #4 pick) or trade up to #2 with #4 and Collier and grab Curry

    Rockets line-up:

Center - Diop (Curry if #2 pick)/Possibly Marc Jackson via free agency
    PF - MT/Cisse
    SF - SAR/MB/DL
SG - CM (other free agent, possibly Jim Jackson or another back-up SG)
    PG - SF/MN

(NOTE: eleven players specified. CD and RT to fill in with another free agent at which ever position necessary - probably back court)

Do you really need Webber with this line-up????

Super young, fast and atheletic team with a 300lb. anchor in the middle that will challenge Shaq in just a couple of years.

    Thoughts??????

While these trade scenarios are excellent dreams, none of them have a chance of filtering. Vancouver does not receive nearly enough compensation and the Rocks get WAY too much. It's fun thinking, though.

    ElGrandeQueso,

I don't agree with your assessment.

In the scenario above Vancouver would get a #18 (lottery pick value in their case )Williams and Miller.

They loose SAR and a #27 pick. Considering the jam they are in that is not bad.

Don't forget Williams is a one year job and delivers $5 million in cap space next year and lets face it - the Griz are lottery bound next year anyway. Cap space and a lottery pick is of essential value to this team!

Plus Millar has a team opt out in his contract as well.

If you were the GM of the Rockets, and we had Rahim, would you trade him for Walt Williams and the 18th pick?

The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

Geez, how long will it take for us to know?

Or are they going by EST? Then, I guess that any deal with Vancouver ain't going down.

    Nomar,
Remember that # 18 is a lottery pick. Also the Griz get Miller as well as Williams. They also get $5 mil or more in cap space next year.

ROCKET!!!, The Rockets was the LAST team in the lottery at #13, how can #18 be a lottery pick?

I agree with the others, it's good for Houston, but bad for the Grizzlies.

    Moonbus,
The #18 pick has the effect of a lottery pick for Vancouver.

All this doesn't matter anyway, Orlando held the pcik till after 3 a.m.

    Moonbus,
Next time read the previous posts!

I got this a few miniutes ago.

The Houston Rockets have traded the 22nd pick in the 2001 NBA Draft to the Orlando Magic in exchange for the 23rd pick in this year's draft, Rockets General Manager Carroll Dawson announced today. In accordance with the guidelines in the trade agreement, the Magic will accept the 18th pick in the draft from the Phoenix Suns and convey it to Houston.

Orlando owed the Rockets a first round draft pick as part of the three-team, 11-player deal between Houston, Vancouver and Orlando that brought Steve Francis to the Rockets on Aug. 27, 1999. The Magic will accept the 18th selection from the Suns who were conveyed the pick initially by the New York Knicks.

The Rockets now have the 13th, 18th and 23rd selections in the 2001 NBA Draft, which will be held on June 27 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Houston does not have a second round selection in this year's draft.
