It is a real honor to watch this guy work. It must be like watching Ali in his prime or Michael Jordan during the early 90's. I would wager that if you put him in an incredible cast of today's best he would still stand out. "There Will Be Blood" is just further proof of this, not to mention "Bill the Butcher" is still IMO one the most memorable movie roles ever portrayed.

I think besides having tremendous talent, guy just flat out works harder than anyone else. He studies his roles a year in advance at least. He stays in character months before shooting. He pretty much turns himself into a madman. Very meticulous, theres a rumor the original actor who was playing Eli Sunday in TWBB was fired because he was intimidated by DDL's intensity, so they changed the story to make Paul Dano both brothers.

I would say he is the best actor currently working today... I wouldn't consider him a GOAT or anything.....

Daniel Day-Lewis is certainly a great actor, and more than that, he picks really good roles.

That being said, I think the most talented actor working today is Mark Wahlberg. He doesn't have the luxury of cherry-picking roles, and always does an incredible job.

Almost forgot about him, I second this as well. Its still so funny to me to realize that he was once "Dusty" from Twister.

Exactly. It's hard to make a case for DiCaprio when they were in a movie together and the most memorable performance is Daniel Day Lewis by a longshot.

I don't think anyone famous will even do a movie with DDL anymore because they get owned in every scene.

Looking at his career it is difficult if not impossible to find a single weak film he has ever acted in.
