Is there any news at all about Scola getting offers?

Have not heard or read one thing. Lesser players are agreeing to deals. Maybe it is because he is restricted. But no rumors of any teams even calling him and telling him they want him?

I still think he's gonna wind up with a MLE offer for us to match, so I suspect Morey is telling Luis he will pay him $30 million over 5 years, some number just above the MLE to hold Luis off from signing an offer sheet. This is how he can convince Luis to agree to be S&T'd, when he comes back and offers Luis $$45 million over 5 years to go out in a S&T.

Are there any rumors of teams talking to Scola?

I think at this point DM would be exceptionally fortunate to get Luis to agree to 5 years and 30 million. DM would do that today IMO but I don't think Luis would.

Two factors which combined makes it impossible for teams and Scola to come together on an offer.

    1. If a team offer him the MLE, Morey would match in a nanosecond and doing backflips at getting such a good deal.
    2. Teams with more money than MLE are mostly waiting on top free agents, and one might only offer Scola a contract if everyone else is gone.

My point is he is restricted. Teams aren't going to deal with him until all the primo free agents are settled and until most unrestricted free agents with value close to his are resolved. Then they are going to deal with Scola. What is going to be left after all that? If Miami loses Wade, are they going to offer Scola $9 million per? Is NJ going to offer Scola $9 million per? Is Chicago going to offer Scola $9 million per? Who else is out there under the cap that would possibly be interested in offering him a big contract? The only possibility I see is a team seeing Morey with a master plan to acquire two superstars and they attempt to scuttle his plan by offering Luis a big contract. But then they face the risk of us letting Scola walk and them stuck with overpaying him for 5 years. What other possibilities are there for Scola to get a contract over MLE?

Scola is going to command 9-10 million a year, Gooden and Amir Johnson set the market at just under 7 and we all know Scola is better.

Other teams want to see how Houston's pursuit of Bosh turns out.

If Bosh is traded to Houston and Scola is included in a sign and trade, then there is less need for Houston match another team's offer. It's the best chance that another team has of getting Scola, since Morey is unlikely to match him.

Does this mean trading for him or trying to sign him outright?

So if the Clippers or Nets lose out on the "big" guys, they wouldn't make that kind of offer to Scola? An interesting Scenario I thought about was Miami, if they lose Wade they will HAVE tons of money to spend and no one to spend it on.

We could make some rumors up and they would just be as credible as the others

Scola will go with S&T. Good teams love a winner like Scola.

Well, I didn't want to make Morey out to look like an a-hole. ;)

why would a rebuilding team use almost 1/5th of their entire salary cap on a 30 year old complimentary player?

even if miami has to start from scratch, i don't think they decide to invest in older players that will win meaningless games on the way to the lotto, while their talent declines. rebuilding teams want young, improving players and good draft picks.

Yep. And Miami WOULD have people to spend it on. Their own free agents.

I think the Heat would probably re-sign Udonis Haslem to a deal before signing Scola. While Scola is a better player, Haslem has long been a fan favorite in Miami and is still one of the best defensive power forwards in the game.
