Is there any doubt Steve is going to make the 2004 games?

I sincerely believe that Steve will make
the Olympics because:

1. In 4 years, Steve will be THE best point guard

2. David Stern shouldn't want the next team to be ANYTHING that resembles our last Dream
Team

Sorry for any KG or VC fans, but I don't ever want to be reminded of our last Olympic games.

Yup...right after Brand. He'll probably live in the big guys shadow his whole career...kinda like the way Ewing lived in Jordans.

No troll...thats just the way this Bulls fan sees it.

Except for the fact that

a) the Bulls will suck this year

and

b) good stats dont always equate to skill. If Steve Francis was on that Bulls team last year, he would pulled down 10 boards a game too. Instead, he just pulled down 5.3 per game on a much better rebounding team. And thats not even saying anything about the scoring opportunites that would have been afforded to him there. The Rockets had 5 players who averaged over 10 ppg last season. The Bulls only 2.

But nobody can forecast the future (unless you beleive in psychics, which I don't, because if you really were a psychic, wouldnt you be rich, and they never are),
so why dont we just let time tell who will be better.

"kinda like the way Ewing lived in Jordans"

Yeah, I like that analogy. Notice the big man is living in the guard's shadow.

I can definitely see that happening again [IMG]

I wouldn't be surprised if the college players aren't in the 2004 Olympics. The pros disgraced the USA with their lack of effort this year. There was only one true Dream Team and now it is time to bring back the college players.

I don't say it based on individual skill alone. I say it because I believe Elton will head a more talented cast of players than the Rockets will. Like you say, we have to wait and see...but I like the potential Crawford and Fizer and Artest bring to the table---and they have competent support players with them in Mercer and Drew and perhaps Guyton or El-Amin. I think that staff---grown up--and the fact that Jerry has conserved enough cap space to sign ona difference making FA one day...means the Bulls will one day make regular trips to the conference finals and beyond...something Steve will be hard pressed to do in the West.

4chuckie,
If the pros barely beat the other teams do you really believe that college kids would have done better?

Don't forget, we only got a bronze in World competition when the pros refused to play for their country because of the NBA lockout.

It can be argued that the Dream teamers had too much attitude and all that but the fact is that other countries are getting better.

Usually when your competition gets better you want to avoid making your team weaker.

Granted the world is certainly catching up but those guys on the team didn't want to be there. They were treating it like an All-Star game (No D, no effort unless it was to dunk).
I think our college kids could be competitive (get a medal each year) and be more enthusiastic.
The world saw when we brought our pros that we were better than them. I think that we proved our point.
Honestly I would have rather gotten a bronze with our collegians trying and hustling than watch one more Vince hi-lite of a dunk then blowing kisses to the WNBA players in the stands, or him missing a dunk and trying to fight the Russian or seeing one more clip of our guys walking around waiting to get the ball.
I guess my bottom line is I would rather have an over-achieving under manned squad (last years Orlando Magic team) then a lazy, under-achieving team (2000 Olympic Team).

Yeah, i believe that the college kids would play with heart, but as a greedy American the only color that I want on the medals for my country is gold. There is no shame in putting the best players on the floor that are available(unless those players would rather treat it like an all-star game).

As for Francis being in Brand's shadow: C'MON! Yeah, Elton does have some skills for someone who plays the 4 in the eastern conference where there are no skilled PFs but in no way will his game ever surpass Francis' overall game where he plays the deepest position in the NBA now more than ever. BUT, I wouldn't mind seeing Elton Brand in the 2004 games either.

Francis WON'T be in the Olympics.

Of course, that is if the NBA's very best continue to spurn the US basketball team the way Shaq, Duncan and Kobe did this year.

Actually TB-Cain; Duncan was supposed to play for Dream Team but didn't compete because of the same injury that kept him out of the playoffs. I would have loved to see Duncan play, he would have been the only one to actually play the games like they weren't an all-star game.

Hmmmm....you guys didn't have cap room this year ? I think Jabba is still sitting by the phone (pizza in one hand, cheap beer in the other) waiting for Duncan, Mcgrady, Taylor, Hill, Thomas, Rice, etc. to call.

No one wanted to play with a team that was seriously bad and where it was unclear how long it would be before they got good. If the three (JC,MF, RA) prove to be credible ball players the way Brand has we won't have that problem anymore. No one said "I don't want to play for Krause" and believe me... you've heard Garnetts words before...they would have. As it was...all but one stayed with their team or went to their home-town. Our day will come...one day...

Is Brand even capable of beating out Fizer for a starting job?

GettingBranded...dont kid yourself. stevie will run circles around this guy. brand doesnt have as much fire as steve. I see almost the same fire in steve that i did in mj and we have mobley(better than artest) taylor(better than fizer anyway ffizer and brand both play pf), cato(way way better than umm all bulls centers), and shandan anderson(better than mercer, who shoots too much) and then we have kenny thomas, moochie norris, dan langhi, and carlos rogers and that more than cancels out crawford. so how is it that you guys have more talent around brand than we do around francis, it took us one frikkin year to turn around and make a youth movement and as far as i can see, you guys still have more to go. Stevie desrved roy straight up.
sf- 18ppg 5 rpg 6.6 apg 118 steals(season)
Brand-20ppg 10 rpg 1.9 apg 66 steals
steve has better numbers in two categories there and is only 2 behind in scoring, and also brand was the only point in their offense steve had cuttino, shandon, cato, rogers, bullard, thomas, etc...

am i the only one who is a little annoyed than every week a bulls fan comes and brags about their team. well actually its a little fun pointing out their errors,

one more thing brand had 228 turnovers at PF??? come on, did he have to bring it down the court every play? no, did he handle the ball on the perimeter? no, but stevie did. even the very turnover prone pf vin baker only had 213. so what does that make elton?
thats right, what ya got to say now huh?

lol

Brand isn't the next Jordan.

He isn't going to get the Bulls even remotely close to the trophy.

Bulls are stuck in mediocrity now.

Nice to see optimism though, even if it is grossly misplaced.

No one is braggin' dude...I'm just talking bbal like the rest of you.

Most of the players you named are better now but it's once our guys reach the point that yours have that the difference will begin to show. A great part of our roster is <22,23 years old and has less than two years of experience. Once they get it on as a group...I'm positive they'll run circles around the current group of rockets if they're so unfortunate as to still be grouped togather togather.

Steve deserved ROY straight up? Thats hilarious. He isn't even the best player at his position in his conferance...something that Brand came into the league and took immediate hold of. And if he played in the west...he'd be grouped right there near the top too...ask CWebber about the 30 pt 18 rebound thumping Brand gave him after he tried to call brand out last season. 26 and 12 against Malone. 23 and 10 against Rasheed.

It been fun pointing out your errors. [IMG]
