Heard Worrell was being forced to retire, but it is clear that Ackerman is not the answer. Road games with Bull and Ackerman sound like just a notch up from high school telecasts. They are borderline boring and just flat out miss the professionalism that Bill brings each game. Any chance Worrell returns next year for (at least) home games?
You guys b**** too much. Worrell was great. He is the true face/voice of the Rockets in my opinion. It will be a sad day when he is gone. That being said, it has been increasingly hard to listen to him the last few years. Ackerman is a great change of pace and a damn good announcer in his own right. People always "hate" change initially. 20-30 years from now when Ackerman is retiring, fans will say that same thing about whoever replaces him. Don't let nostalgia sway you this much.
Lulz. Three Ackerman threads on the front page. must be the boring wins we've been experiencing lately.
We may be able to draft him with the 28th pick in the first round and still call him the number one draft choice
About the same chance as Jeff Van Gundy & Rick Adelman coming back to coach the Rockets. About the same chance as Hakeem & Yao suiting back up for the Rockets About the same chance as Turbo returning as the Rockets mascot.
The day Sting narrates an intellectual documentary on the Sun, it's over for Worrell. That's how safe he is.
You know they are going to have a Worrel jersey retirement. If CD got one then Bill is getting one as well.
I think it started when he was paired with Clyde. I also haven't really laughed at the new Clutch the bear,. And most of the jerseys are ugly except for the red and yellow ones. I miss JP. The "craft" beer at the stadium is mostly stuff owned by AB Inbev. But the 50 year stuff is cool and so was the Yao retirement.
The jersey's with no numbers in the rafters look out of place to me and feel uncomfortable. I would prefer they give him a black banner with a microphone on it and change CD's to black banner with his name on it, and hang those under or off to the right.
Love Worrell (when Calvin was with him) but the game has gotten too fast for him. Will say Ackerman doesn't do it for me. Didn't he take over from gene Peterson and Jim foley? That was like going from a corevette to a 1981 AMC Pacer. I have listened to radio broadcasts since. When gene was there tv was on mute and 740 blaring. Were they homers. Damn straight they were but gene could get your heart rate up and the hairs on the back of your neck up. Miss those days.
My biggest Worrell pet peeve, thinking that "first-round pick" and "#1 draft pick" are interchangeable. Bill's been a terrific announcer for years, but he's starting to slip up a little too often these days. Everybody has to retire at some point, even Vin Scully, and Worrell is no Vin Scully. Ackerman doesn't excite me at all, though. Hopefully he'll grown into the job.
Some people don't like Bill just because he's old. It doesn't really have anything to do about his performance. Basically, internet elder abuse. I thought the Astros might bring Worrell back to do their broadcasts. I thought he was good with the Astros. And baseball was the sport Bill played in college, so he is knows the sport well.
U can say what you want but we are all going to miss "slam-dekker" "tripple-dekker" and "ariza for a 3zaaaaa"
Man, I hope not he gets so much wrong these days, he is degrading fast, into Harry Carey land....let him go out near the top. DD
