http://espn.go.com/classic/s/2002nflhof.html I don't think Kelly should be there, but that's probably largely due to my Bills hatred, but Dan freaking Hampton? What the hell has he done? What did John Stallworth do to finally make it to the Hall? Why don't they just induct that entire Steeler team while they're at it? I'm not commenting on the others because I don't really know much about them. Not including Bill Parcells is the biggest joke of them all. I HATE THESE HALL OF FAMES!
No offense, BGM, but I think it is poetic justice that "Tuna" didn't make it. He probably turned down the Buccaneers job because he thought that he would make it into the Hall of Fame. Serves him right for leaving the Bucs high and dry (although they were incredibly stupid in firing Dungy before getting him to fully commit). He is an egomaniac, plain and simple. I agree with you on Hampton, though. I guess Steve McMichael will be in the Hall of Fame next.
He turned down the Bucs because his name was getting dragged in the mud, not so he could make it to the Hall. Anyway, I always thought the Hall of Fame was supposed to be a place where the elite are placed. Parcells is clearly an elite coach, and the Hall of Fame is clearly a joke.
I believe that would be "Halls of Fame"... In our top story on Sportscenter today, BGM fails in his first attempt to get into the Grammar Hall of Fame.
You think the Hall of Fame is a joke and then you make a comment like Kelly should not be there "probably largely due to my Bills hatred". In other words, leave a deserving player out because you hate the team? That in itself is a joke. Kelly did what no other QB did or has done. Regardless of the outcome, to lead your team to 4 straight Super Bowls is an accomplishment.
Well he also had plenty of talent around him to help lead to those Super Bowls. Don't forget Frank Reich led them to the Super Bowl one of those years. Anyway, my earlier post was my way of saying that he deserved to go, but I wasn't actually going to say it because I hate the dude, but now I must say it since what I said is being referred to as a joke now. Kelly, I'd say Mike Singletary was the true anchor of that defense, not Hampton. A-Train, Get off my sack.
Huh? What are you talking about there? Parcell's name wasn't getting dragged in the mud til after he screwed the Bucs. Now the Bucs probably deserved it due to the way they screwed Dungy but there was clearly some sort of deal in place where Parcells was going to coach the Bucs. When Parcells turned them down he was clearly going back on something. Now he has every right to do that but he was still an ass there and he wasn't thought of as an ass till after his announcement that he wasn't going to coach...
There were rumors that Parcells was recruiting current coaches to join his coaching staff, which is a big no-no to the NFL. He chose to save face and not join up with the Bucs because of that. Also the NFL sent the Bucs a memo stating that if they did hire Parcells, they would look into disciplinary action against them for tampering with other coaches. So Parcells didn't take the job so that he could save face, not so he could make the Hall of Fame...
Huh, I hadn't heard about that. But it doesn't change the fact the he screwed the Bucs. If he was recruiting current coaches when he knew that he was gonna get punished, then he screwed the Bucs. He may have done it unintentionally (unless the Bucs told him to do so) but he still screwed the Bucs. And from everything I heard it sounds to me like the Bucs wanted him to coach no matter the disciplinary reasons. Thus it looks to me like Parcells f*cked up, got caught, and renigged on his deal with the Bucs to save face. Not a very admirable action in my view. Should that stop him from getting to the HoF? I don't think so. I just also think it's very foolish to say that the reason he didn't take the job was because his name was being dragged in the mud without looking why it was being dragged in the mud...
