Everyone knows that the Rockets are changing their style of play to an uptempo, run and gun style. With the recent roster moves and those to come, I doubt this will be for only one season, while we wait for Yao. That being said, how in the world will Yao fit this NEW Rockets team if and when he comes back? Yao will presumbly be coming back after taking a season off from major surgery. How does Yao fit in the equation with the make up of this team looking forward two seasons?
Due to Yao being injured. When he is back we will be versatile enough to adapt our style based on matchups. Yao is an offensive nightmare for any opponent to match up against. Yao is the type of player you fit others around.
If Yao came back healthy... We put up 45 wins this year without him... and Adelman decides to move in another direction. Ya the writing is on the wall. Don't let the door hit you on the way out Adelman.
I believe you 100%. But I will not be surprised if Morey thinks otherwise, especially with the current events surrounding the Rox. I do not think it is a rationale move to fire Adelman just for the benefit of one injury-prone player. It would seem that Rox organization is all about making money than winning the chip.
we've built around yao for 6 years and where has that led us? only 1 second round appearance. i'll take my chances with adelman who has the most proven track record on this team.
No, the reason we are being forced to change the way we play is because of Yao's injury. Not because we want to. Something that was unique about last season's team was that we were versitile enough to compete with anyone in any style of play. We could slow it down with Yao in the game, we could speed it up when he wasn't. We could play big, we could play small. That's the flexibility Morey is going for when he is picking up new players.
I agree...the beauty of having coach Adelman is that he is versatile and can coach any style based upon the players he has. Last season our first and second units were pretty different styles and tempo. So far we still have all the players from the first unit except Artest. So NO! The writing is not on the wall.
Yao is still the foundation of the team. Despite his injuries, the team will probably keep him unless a trade too good to pass comes along. This season would tell us what the Rockets are about but at the end they still need Yao to have a chance for a title.
So base on the assumption of Rockets will play a run and gun style, you assume the run and gun will be successful. And then, you assume Yao will come back healthy, and you assume the run&gun would be so successful that Rockets don't want change it back for Yao. And there is this question... Sad
I say get rid of him. The Rockets cant count on players who are so injury prone anymore. If he cant take the grueling schedule of the NBA, then I dont want him on my team. Time to move on instead of clinging my championship hopes on someone who will eventually let you down.
What move this offseason made you assume that? Having Taylor instead of Wafer? Mind you that Wafer is more explosive then Taylor. Having Ariza instead of Artest? Mind you that Artest ball-hogged and ruined the first AND the second unit at times. Getting Anderson? He's just a big man that we sorely needed, and also the cheapest one. (only costed a million and a 2nd round draft pick) You should have noticed what we were doing by at least the Lakers series. Several games, our first unit (some of these games did include Yao) just sucked. They fell into a deep hole, but then Rick enters in Lowry, Landry, and Wafer. That is a WHOLE new style of play, and if teams are uncappable of adjusting, then it is over. Our first unit is more defense and more half court. This is because Yao does very well posting up and altering shots. Now that Yao is injured, we'll just have to make the first unit a more up-tempo because our focal point of our original first unit is injured. Not to mention, the marketing side that Yao brings to the team.
and therein lies the challenge...because i agree with you. you have to build a team around yao...not fit yao within a team. but you can't count on him, because he can't stay healthy. i've been singing that song for about 3 years now.
My take on this is simple. You do not give maximum contract extensions to players with a history of suffering season ending injuries, no matter how skilled or how hard working they are, period.
Obviously this isnt my team, because if it was, I would have gotten rid of him a few years ago. I would rather have less money and championships without Yao, then more money and guaranteed ZERO championships with Yao.
What Yao needs around him is guys that can run the floor and get out on the fast break. Signed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Yao Ming is without a doubt the premier offensive Center in the league. He cant help injuries, so dont even bother commenting on that... Yes he is THE premier offensive Center... Anyway, when he comes back, he will allow the Rockets to adapt to each opponent and create crazy match up problems. Im excited about the upcoming season and the seasons to come.
I love Yao's game as much as anybody but this is where I'm going. For at least this upcoming season we have to move forward and build a team, identity, and style of play with out Yao. If and when Yao comes back, he will be 30yrs. old, coming off major surgery and having missed a full season. Assuming he is healthy, would you be willing to keep building around him and give him an extension, given the risk of injury history or make the most of this situation and start moving on now?
