talking about asians mainly. would you be offended if someone called you "white washed"? for the white folks, would you be offended if you hear that? just wondering.
I actually had an in depth conversation with an African-American man about the differences between honkies and crackers. I asked which I was...his response was pretty darned good. He said that he would not call me either, because those terms are offensive. He said that since I was not a racist, he would call me a honky. Cracker is a term that has a much more negative connotation. This has nothing to do with the thread, but DaDa's response just reminded me of this.
What are some characteristics of somebody who is white washed? Like somebody who enjoys baseball, or somebody who does well in school? Is this like a spectrum, where you have fob on one end, and white washed on the other?
White washed isn't offensive at all unless its a super sensitive Asian. I guess the more polite term would be Americanized. Now the term sellout is more offensive and meant to be offensive!
not really, it's more of a self loathing-disrepect thing. an example is being embarrassed to be associated with other asians. it's to abandon your culture for the sake of fitting in. here's a true story: i have a friend who's vietnamese that's dating a white girl. that white girl has a korean friend, and they're both from a hick town someone in california. well... one day the korean friend tells her "arn't you taking a step down in the social ladder by dating an asian?" that kinda stuff just makes you want to throw up...
white washed is usually given to the asians who act like they're sooo totally white when they are sooo absolutely not.
