I remember many times going down 6th Street in Austin, and seeing a group of hippie looking guys doing some really sick art pics with just some spraypaint, and smearing it to make some crazy layers and designs. The final product was just incredible, for like 4 mins of what seems like throwing paint on a posterboard. I think they sold them fairly cheap, too. These guys were just mass producing these on the streets, one after another, and getting all kinds of attention. Are these guys still down there, doing this art? I will never forgive myself for not getting one. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Cmon, nobody saw this guy on 6th street? I thought he was like a Austin legend. Any info would be great. I'm trying to get one for the lovely lady in my life for Christmas.
I've seen him/them. I've stopped to watch several of their "shows". However, I rarely ever go to 6th, and I haven't visited 6th since SXSW. And even when I was down there, I can't actively recall if they were.
I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together. See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly. I'm crying.
When I attended UT in the late 90s I remember seeing these guys on 6th street and always wanting to buy a painting - but never being able to justify spending $20 on "art" as a broke college student. then when i graduated and got a job and began traveling for business, i became utterly dismayed when i realized that this phenomenon was not local to Austin - but that every downtown in every major metropolis (NYC, chicago, LA, seattle, miami, PHX, et al) had people who did this exact same type of art and also charged $20. my world was just a wee bit crushed when i realized this wasn't authentic to my hometown of austin.
If he is, he's moved. I was just down there this past weekend at Emos...which is right across Nueces where he used to hang out. I haven't seen that guy in years. Not only were they cool pictures, you could get high if you hung out in front of him long enough from the fumes...
still there, in the east 6th area... just have to go up a street or two... he works near some auto repair shop behind some iron fencing. saw him 2 months ago.
