pf:kelvin cato / kenny thomas / carlos rogers
sf:walt williams / dan langhi / matt bullard
c :hakeem olajuwon / jason collier
    sg:shandon anderson / cuttino mobley
    pg:steve francis / moochie norris

i'd think so, especially if cato and langhi turn their potential into good stats and hakeem comes back to atleast half of his former self it is very possible to go far.although our front court needs some tinkering i think that our team could be set for the future and for now.although making the playoffs might be a mixed blessing because we would be missing out on the chance to get guys like troy murphy, terrance morris, eddie curry etc.but id rather win now than later

Keep your name what else are we going to talk about. Although I don't particularly care for pippen after his parting comments about hakeem. If pippen was going to bash the old man he should have at least said them before he got traded and to his face. Maybe we should start a "change your name" forum.

not that bad of a thread, though the sentiments in this thread are shared by most on this board.

I'm sure Cat would agree with the win now philosophy.

I want the Rockets to win, even if they don't do well enough to make the playoff. I want them to give it their all. But I will be rooting for the Bucks to tank.

btw, whenever I see your nick, I see "ScottiePippenDroppings". It is really quite funny.

It was not intended as a joke, just stating the facts.

Huh? I have been a member since February of '99. Your "humor" is worse than your name.

Actually, it is pretty damn funny.

You're a Portland fan trying to **** around with us aren't you? Well just give it up. It's an old act.

Here are some options you should consider:

    1) Stop insulting posters because they don't like your username.
    2) Get a more appropriate, less b****-like username.
    3) Shut up and get the hell out.

    Have a nice day.

If adding Langhi and Collier to a 30 win team with one the worst front courts in the league is going to transform us into a contender, then sure our depth is good enough and so is your lack of intelligence.

Hey, where did your posts go, scottiepippensixrings? You let loose with a profanity filled rant, bad mouthing clutch and his board, hoping to get banned, then delete your posts? I thought you said you were out of here?

Smegster: Eeeek! A real post in this thread!

Collier + Langhi + experience = more wins.

Remember how well Houston was playing at the end of last year? They looked as good as Seattle at least. Remember, if the Rockets add 12 games, they might be in the playoffs.

Remember the impact Vince's experience added to the Raptor's record this year? I hope Francis comes close to that.

Also, I think there's a very real chance Langhi will work out. If he turns out to even be decent and consistent, that's a few more wins right there. What if Hakeem becomes a 12 and 8 man at center?

I know, quite a few "if's," but none of those is independently too unlikely.

We have to remember the Rockets started 2-12 and looked lost out there for the first few months of the season. Plus, they lost alot of close games at the beginning of the seasonm, games they were winning at the end of the season. Plus the Rockets never had a consistent rotation because of the injuries.Hakeem,Massenburg,Barkley,Cato,
Rogers all got injured in the first few months. In addition, it took Walt untill April to feel comfortable in the offense. Depsite all of this, we did win 34.And the Rox did beat plenty of good teams in the stretch run. If the Rockets can stay reasonably healthy, and get contributions from Langhi and possible a good player w/4.5 exception, there's no reason the Rox shouldn't be competing for a playoff spot.

I would rather not try and win now and wait for 1 to 2 more years. My point is that trying to win now is pretty pointless, we all know that there is no way we could get pass the Lakers in the playoffs this upcoming year(If we actually make the playoffs, we would probably be 8th seed and end up playing the Lakers), heck we might not even make the playoffs. If we get a high lottery pick in next years draft, we could shore up our weak front line with either Eddy Curry or Loren Woods. This would give us a better chance to contend. Plus if what some people are saying about us getting Lewis in next year's free agent class, we would really be contenders. think about this team:
    C-Curry or Woods, Collier
    PF-Cato, KT
    SF-Lewis, Langhi, (bye bye Wizard)
    SG-Shandon, Cat
    PG- Stevie, Moochi
Scary huh? If we start trying to win now, we might become like the Pistons were with Grant Hill. Good enough to make the playoffs, but not good enough to get past 1st round. Because of that, they could make themselves better since they never got a chance to go to the lottery and couldn't lure good free agents.

While I certainly don't think we should make any moves to win now at the expense at the future, what you advise sounds dangerously like TANKING, a past time of which I greatly disapprove [IMG]. I for one, would rather the Rockets gave it their all, and slipped into the 8th seed, than took a lottery pick.

Remember: lottery picks don't necessarily guarantee success. The Clippers, Dallas, Golden Stateand New Jersey have had them for YEARS without much appreciable effect, while other teams have made the playoffs for more than a decade. I'd rather win, and make Houston an attractive city for free agents.

    Toronto also added Antonio Davis.

The more lefties on your team, the better.
Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong?
    Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.

You guys are missing the boat the Rockets were a 500 team the last half of the season and won 10 out of the last 15... many against playoff teams that were desperately trying to jockey for position. They beat Utah in Utah, Phoenix in Phoenix, and Portland in Portland. They even beat that Dallas cinderella team and they did alot of this while players like Cato Rogers Hakeem & Massenburg were injured. The rockets already are a playoff team if the only stay the same. But they won't Francis will show great improvement Walt will show he is for real Cat is back... Everyone understands the offense a little better. Hakeem will come back healthy. Langhi will be a definite improvement over Bullard's spot (who actually was a nice surprise last season)and Collier will even contribute by season's end. The Rockets can flat out run against any one in the league period. if they cut down on their to's they will even be better. Can they win a championship? Doubt it. Will they be better than LA Portland and SA? Probably not. But barring major injuries to major players the Rockets will be in the playoffs and they will be exciting to watch!
