I know another lets get this guy thread but check this out... Could the Rockets be on this guy, we know Morey was after him last year and passed because of the salary but with the Salary Cap expanding and thus the Lux Tax as well...I wonder???
He would have been very effective for us last year, and better than Brad Miller this upcoming season. He's no starting, 30 mpg, 20-10 center....but he can handle the position fine for half the game. Yao's return to form is tenuous at best and far from guaranteed. Gortat would be a capable back up plan.
and on top of that, he wants to start. As long as Yao can step on that court, Gortat will not start here..... and no, Im not going to assume automatically that Yao is going to be out this year, that was the whole reason for the radical surgery, to strengthen a weak point in his foot. If you want to think that he can never play at full health again, it is your prerogative, but I find that defeatist thinking at the very least.
Yao hasn't had a full season in how long??? We need insurance, he wants to start but Yao will be limited so Gortat would get PLENTY of playing time. Plus he could play PF in certain matchups so again playing time is the key.
He was restricted last year, the Magic matched our offer. Edit: oops, he signed the Mavs offer sheet. Oh well, we wouldn't have gotten him either way
I'll pass. You have to presume the rockets could pick up Brad Miller fairly cheap compared to what they would have to give up in a trade for Gortat and his bloated contract.
Honestly wouldn't want him taking mins. away from Hill, assuming Hill proves he can man the position in Summer League. Rockets youth scenario looks better then adding any marginal vet. at this point. Besides I think Scola is better at the 5 than this guy
should have joined us last year... he could have proved his worth while Yao was out... too bad. He can rot on the bench behind DH for all I care.
Great idea!! It's not like the GM himself said Hill was playing back up 5, implying that is why PP is still a great fit (at the back up 4).
Quoted for reiteration. People whining and crying about how Yao is just going to break his foot again or whatever seem to forget that the whole point of the surgery was to prevent that and that Ilgauskas is a shining example of how well this particular surgery works. But I still fully expect a reply along the lines of: "But he only got it done to one foot!"
Mry didnt pass on him, he passed on us and signed an offer sheet with Dallas instead.. I hope we're the ones that are trying to get him but its doubtful cuz we were jus waiting until yesterday for Boshs decision and I dont think Moreys made his plan B move that quick.. but it is more Im talkin about
Not completely true, Morey was not willing to give him the full MLE while the MAVS did...irrelevant because Orlando would have matched anyway. side note - Some of you guys are willing to trust Yao will play a full season? I'm not, love the big guy, but he has failed us to many times in the past to just have blind faith in the guy.
Gortat actually might not be such a bad fit for Cleveland, replacing Shaq. Either way, he won't be coming to the Rockets because he won't start, and Morey doesn't think he's worth the MLE so won't deal for him anyway.
