Is the only way we'll get any respect is to win it all?

Does it get under anyone's skin besides mine when the announcers last night say, "Yeah, well, the Lakers can't pull this stuff off against the Rockets when they play Denver"

First of all, IF they play Denver, secondly, How on earth do they know that Denver won't be a cakewalk compared to our Rockets? Just because Denver beat up on sorry arse N.O. and Dallas????

I think if the Lakers win game 7, they will go on to trounce the Nuggets, and people will say..."oh yeah, well, the Lakers play down to their opponents, that's why the struggled against Houston" and if they lose, it will be, "Houston is going to get creamed by Denver - Denver isn't the Lakers".

    ?????

Pisses me off. The Lakers are the best team on the planet and we are taking them to a 7th game. That should say more about us than L.A. or Denver or anyone. If we knock of the Lakers, a BIG IF I know, but if we do, we still won't get any respect.

Does anyone else feel a bit like Rodney Dangerfield right now?

ya i seriously hate it when people do that... even if we did end up winning the championship, people will still be like CLeveland (or whatever other team) underestimated their opponents, or they played really horribly or rockets STOLE the series.... never once will rockets get credit for playing well, its always the other team that played badly

I only read the title and not your post but lemme tell you this: we are getting a ton of respect right now from everyone around the league. if you dont believe me check all the other team's forum including the lakers.

AND earlier today i was listening to the herd on espn radio they had the nuggets' coach on and he was praising the rockets for their heart and determination.

    Let's be honest.

    Everyone remembers the 2007 Warriors.

But nobody here will remember the 2008 Cavs or Hawks as anything more then nuisance for an eventual champion.

That's with anything. The lakers were the heavily favored team in this series and that's WITH a healthy Yao to battle against. The fact that we didn't get swept or done with in 5 greatly disappoints the mainstream media. We are getting respect though, it's just not the obvious papers and writers.

Same here, I certainly noticed that as if the Rockets were already dead...I think if we win on Sunday, the respect factor for non-fans will rise several notches...I'm praying!

The Rockets just don't have any flashy players marketable to the US. Yao is an unathletic big man and a foreigner. Tracy is a farcry from what he used to be. Ron Artest is just crazy. Then you have players like Hayes, Battier, Scola, Landry, Lowry, all of whom are hardnosed, blue-collar, tough guys. The Rockets are a blue-collar team, no flash, no frills. And the NBA is all about the flash and the frills.

and even if we won it all, they'd still find a way to disrespect it. so don't worry about it. it actually makes it more fun.

We need to beat the Lakers and then we need to either beat the Nuggets or make it a really tough series (like 7 games) to get respect. If we just beat the Lakers, the focus will be more on what they did not do. But if hold our own against the Nuggets as well, then they can't write us off.

i've tried so hard to find it but back in 96 when the rockets played the lakers in the first round the LA Times had an article with Rodney Dangerfield wearing a Rockets (pj style) jersey

the title of the article was "how about some respect?" and this was as the rockets were trying to start their run for a 3rd straight ring.

I've been looking for that picture since I havent found it.

To me, the more the so-called analysts put us down, the better off for us. Our guys will be fired up, and any random "analysis" can be posted on the wall in locker room. Our coaching staff doesn't need any motivation speech. I am loving this underdog role.

Beat LA and Nuggests, then give it all out against Carvs. We will get respect then. I would love to see the collective national media to kiss donkey a$$, except for JVG.

The Rockets can win it all and still won't get respect. To this day there are plenty of people who think the Pistons' 2004 Championship was not deserved. Hell, I didn't give those guys credit until they went back and almost beat the Spurs.

If the Rockets win it all without Yao, they will definitely get respect. Grudging, of course.

Yes it does, how many times do we beat the lakers until the media just admit "the rockets are a better team (T E A M, not more talented but better). Game 1, they said lakers were rusty, game 4 they said lakers understimated us and thought it would be a cakewalk, now in game 6 "oh lakers have this tendancy to turn it on and off" what ever, did you see kobe out there all upset and getting on Gasol?? Sasha trying to start **** with battier in the end, is this how a team acts that is playing with out a care and just playing down to the competition?? This is a team that can't figure out how the hell they keep getting beat my an underdog. So yes, it is very frustrating.

If we were to make it a series against Denver (assuming we get there), I have to think that we would go from the outsiders to the cinderella story that sportswriters adore so much . . .

everytime someone makes a thread like this someone replies "who cares" the reason we care is we have pride in this city and our team that we been following for 10 - 20 - 30 or whatever. The reason we watch sports and root for our team is because We all care what other think, it's pride. Why else do we watch? No one here makes more money if the rockets win (unless you bet), our lives don't become enhanced, our wifes dont become more attractive. Alot of it is pride.

If we win, ESPN will go right to work editing together their Nuggets-Cavs Finals promos to replace the Lakers-Cavs promos they finished a few weeks ago.

Also, Nike is going to have to make a Carmelo puppet to converse with the Lebron puppet.
