The flooding that happened in 1993 was devastating and the expected crests in 2001 seem to be close to the 1993 levels. It still gets coverage by the national media, yet the concerns don't seem to be as great as in 1993. Does it seem that this will approach 1993 levels or is the flooding becoming a ho-hum event for the rest of the country?

Any special insight from members with interests in that area would be appreciated. Grummett is in Clinton IA and heypartner has mentioned the Quad cities before, so both are definitely expected to speak up.

I've been meaning to post to ask grummett if he was affected. Good to hear you aren't.

interestingly enough, its all these dykes that have been built that make the flooding worse for communities down river from them.

Its a shame so many people want to live in a FLOOD PLANE and when it floods they are horrified and wait for the govt to bail them out(read taxpayers) ok i must be feeling particularly bitter today. but I thought people should know that those dykes actually cause more damage than they protect

otherwise good thing you are safe, stay that way, and never swim upstream [IMG]

Clinton and Fulton, Il, our sister city, built dikes after a major flood back in the 60's so the high water doesn't really affect us. People are on standby to sandbag around any leaks in the dike but for the most part everything is normal around here. Davenport, otoh, has consistently voted down any proposals to build a dike. Voters have said that they don't want their views of the river obstructed. Go figure.
