Just throwing the question out there, what do you guys think? I've been watching a couple of youtube tmac mixes, and i remembered how amazing he was at finishing just 2 years ago. He could dunk it over anyone because of his length and his athleticism.

Now he tries to flip in those odd looking layups and floaters. When he does dunk, he dunks it gently. I can only hope that he's saving his athleticism for the playoffs. But I look at kobe, who's older than tmac, throwing it down like it's 1997 and finishing with ease, and I think, t-mac used to be able to do that.

I love tmac and he's my favorite player, but he's got me second guessing him. So what do you guys think? can he turn it on in the playoffs?

I think if our guys are scoring...Tmac will be good to great...scoring and playmaking at just the right times...

if they are not.... he will feel the need to take those...shots where 2 guys are on him...takes a jump shot where he has to turn 90 degrees to face the basket double pump... and then launch it from 23 feet out...

I think he will play more reckless (in a good way). But the defensive end is where T-Mac really steps it up in the playoffs. He puts it all out there on defense during the playoffs. And in my opinion he is our best defender when giving 100%, sorry Deke and Battier...

Be realistic. We don't need him to be explosive and be doing all his ferocious dunks and broke his back again.

    We need him

    • in demonstrating his play-making abilities to the fullest
    • be more selective in his shot attempts
    • to do more penetration to score or draw fouls insteads of hoisting prayer jumpers at low 30%
    • be deadly on his free throws
    • make clutch shots at the end when it matters
    • be aggressive, determined, and a leader.......
We don't need him to be on ESPN highlight reels every night.

You know he will, the guy shows up everytime we need him, he did it against the Kings, bringing us back after we were down 9, against the Clippers, hit a few shots so the lead wouldnt be theirs, did it against the Pacers, made a 3 and gave 3 assists late in the 4th. Did it against Detroit when they were coming back and sank a shot with Tayshaun Prince's hand right in his face to bring the lead to 7.

    T-Mac's career playofff stats:
29.8 ppg on 44% shooting, 6.8 rebounds per game, 5.8 assists per game.

This included 30.8 ppg on 46% shooting with 7.4 rebs and 6.7 apg against Dallas in 2005.

I think it is safe to say that he has shown up in the playoffs.

Not necessarily so. He has Big Yao. :D

My response was straightly on the OP's question of whether TMAC should demonstrate his dunking over his opponents like what he used to do 2 to 3 seasons ago, as he used to be that athletic.

No. We don't need him to do all those showboating stuff, by risking his back. Definitely there are much more he could do other than ferociously dunking over his opponents.

i guess expecting him to be more explosive in order to finish his drives is sooo unrealistic. oh  but i guess you'd prefer him to throw up those **** floaters in the lane. as for me, no thanks. we're not going anywhere until tmac finishes his forays into the lane. we'll need all the points we can get in the playoffs.

i wasn't talking about showboating. i want him to finish better, and he used to be able to do that because of his explosiveness. i dont necessarily want him to throw down windmills in boozer's face or whatever, i just want those two points. and sometimes that means finishing it strong. obviously, you didn't get the message. maybe if you read a bit before reaching for your rolly eyes, you'd get the message.

I'm pretty sure t-mac can still be explosive if he truely want to. but its more of, is he willing to risk it? I don't think t-mac gonna do any fancy move unless houston are at the brink of losing a series.

I truely think this is really the last year for t-mac to prove himself. Is all or nothing for him.

Please read what you yourself post first. All along you were hinting that he could no longer dunk with the kind of explosiveness he demonstrated in the past.

And I'm just telling you, his chronic back spasm had taken away his atheltism and possibly the explosiveness, and mentally he had that concern/shadow subconsciously about his back spasm that he seldom dunks ferociously like what he used to do in the past.

And if you have interpreted my reply correctly, you should also understand that I am not preferring him to throw up those prayer jumpers or just relegated to a brick layer, shooting sub 30%.......Surely he had alot much more he could contribute to this team other than dunking.

I said he should be doing more of his play making, providing assists to his team mates, be more selective in his shots, do more penetration to score or draw fouls, be more deadly on his free throws. And those are ways to finish his drives, and get 2 points more efficiently and effectively, rather than hoisting prayer jumpers/floaters, risking his back in finishing powerfully and explosively with dunks !!

I really wondered whether you read what I wrote...........

Except Game 7 when it counted most. He missed his first 7 shots and shot 10/26, he also shot miserably against Detroit in Game 7 when he was with Orlando. Great numbers but TMac needs to show that he can come up big in the game that really counts.

That was T-Mac in Orlando, the guy used to get by his man with such ease, now he stuggles...

I wish he would evolve his game...he needs to add some new moves...maybe a post up game. He's lost a step, it's not something he can just turn on. T-mac is a little more 'chunky' than he used to be.
