I just had a heated conversation with my grandmother, (which I love so much by the way:)) about this very topic.

She is a die hard Christian and keeps telling recruits that sports is the devils work and is a sin in God's eyes.

This really ticks me off and gets my blood flow going. Personally for me, I don't understand why this is the case. I have never EVER read in any bible that proves her theory. Grandma just says it's a gut feeling...

I understand we have all sorts of religious types in this forum and I would like to get your opinion on this matter.

No matter what religion. Have you guys ever heard of this restriction?

    Thank in advance

hell no, if that was the case then pretty much anything would be "bad".

If your grandmother really believes that, she is delusional.

Does she refer to specific sports or does she think ping pong is also the work of the devil?

I know some "hardcore" Christians who avoid anything secular. Music, television, books, whatever. But even though they make that choice, they still recognize that things that aren't explicitly Christian aren't automatically sinful or bad or wrong.

Exactly. I ask her to tell me where she gets this from? She always says it's a gut feeling which just blows up everything up because it's really her own personal belief. Plus this is how she was raised. Never been to a movie theater, sports venue or anything that's entertaining.

Do you guys know people that just start adding things and pushing it on religion according to what they expect from you?

    Hahahaha!

    And you can quote me.

Why would the Apostle Paul use so many sports comparison's then?

Of course not. I was just being sarcastic. It is pretty ridiculous tho for someone to think a sport is "work" from the devil. Even tho grandmas do sometimes get out of line. :p

My moms side of the family, they are all Christians and sometimes I do get irritated by them when they leave our get together for Christmas Eve before 12AM. I guess they think its soooo late.

Good thing the Sabbath is Sabado. (Saturday)

It's called "traditions of men." And Jesus described them as "making the Word of God of none effect."

Men's rules that have been added to the message of the Bible only serve to confuse and make it weaker.

BTW- Too much church can actually be a sin... too much anything can, if it's worshipped or exalted above God.

Scripture does briefly mention that "bodily exercise profiteth little" but that means when compared to spiritual things, as they pertain to your eternal life.

A little sport never hurt anyone... If it did, I doubt Jesus would have hand picked fisherman to be in his small group of 12.

Y'all get the old folks in your lives those necklace devices that call for help if they fall or need assistance.

The one I plan to get my oldies (when the time comes) will deliver cyanide into their bloodstream. When the time comes that they actually start needing that kind of help is time enough. Oh, and of course they won't know its not calling for help.
