Some weird stuff happened: -The mouse arrow moved all by itself a bunch of times in a row and I had to restart -I was watching TV on the computer and it changed channels On the networking tab of the task manager it said .4% network utilization even though I wasn't on any sites. How do I check if someone is hacked on or I got a trojan horse or whatever?
hold on, let me first finish downloading the animal p*rn from your downloads file...... ok, I started using a program called ZoneAlarm on my computer which only allows your programs to access the internet when you want it to, after a week it has blocked 4000 intrusions into my computer. you can try to download that to see if it stops it.
Give a brother a link ... Why do I always feel like a network is following me somewhere? I have too much metal around me to allow cats to access this piece of crap with a wireless card.
do you run a firewall?(hardware or software) if not...email me your IP address and Il run a scan to see what ports are open on your machine.. or even better yet(if ya dont trust me) go to grc.com and run their shieldsup utility. it will test your machine and tell you wwhat ports are open.
Do routers act as firewalls? I use a D-Link broadband router to share my DSL connection among two computers, but I didn't configure firewall software or anything. Is the router itself adequate protection?
yes... most consumer broadband router/gateways use NAT....which disquises all network traffic cominf from behind it as the one IP address that the router uses. they also have the configuration set to deny all inbound traffic not initiated by the computer behind it. you should be safe....just to make sure...go to the link I provided above and check it out on the shieldsup site.
After you get the firewall, you should either get a freeware virus scanner or spyware removal tool. You may have several nasty things already installed on your system. If you have Windows, make sure you have the latest patches installed.
Thanks for the help. Does anyone know with the Plug n Play problem on grc.com would have to do with someone changing the channel on my tv (plugged in w/ USB).
depending on who you talk to....the UPNP thing either is or isnt that big of a deal. most say that Gibson is making too big of a deal over it... supposedly, uPNP has to do with the MSN messenger standards ....it is extremely doubtful that it could have anything to do with your tv channels. more than likely, it is just a bug. I get siomething similar happens from time to time...my tv channle will flip over one by itself...could be interference or something..who kows. maybe you might want to google for a trojan detector and see fi there is anything that your AV or adaware-style progs missed.
