Shockey splashes child with water toss
    Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO -- New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey threw a cup of ice water over his head and splashed a child in the first quarter of the NFC playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

The emotional Shockey, who often alienates opposing fans and players by his demonstrative nature, was being heckled by fans at the time. Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said no one was hurt, and the rookie tight end was not restrained by security.

It happened shortly after Shockey thought linebacker Julian Peterson had held him on an incomplete third-down pass.

"I think it was an act of frustration,'' Hanlon said.

The boy was given a football by the Giants.

Dancing, taunting, and throwing water at a kid...

    Is he too an embarrassment?

From what they described during the game, it was an accident. Therefore I will forgive him that act.

But the rest of his shenanigans are just plain stupid. The guy comes across as the world's biggest jerk.

A friend called me and said he saw Shockey flip the bird at one point in the game. I didn't see it myself, but allegedly he did.

I'll give him his props. He's officially surpassed Gonzalez as the best TE in the league in my eyes. Great size, great hands, takes big shots over the middle, and a vacuum when the ball is thrown his way.

    But the attitude isn't necessary.

We should have all seen it coming when he stirred up so much controversy in training camp with his own freakin' teammates.

Remember the fight song incident and the fight with Brandon Short?

    Ridiculous.

He sealed the Giants fate with that ridiculous finger wagging crap on that 7-yd reception or so. If you make that catch to get the first down that allows your team to win the game, that's fine - but if not, you have angered the football gods, and they will exact revenge.

Shockey may be bad, but even he is not as dumb as Terrell Owens.

Thanks God he was not put on the expansion list so the Texans could get him.

That late hit Owens put on after the INT on the conversion attempt was the stupidest play I have ever seen in pro football in my decade play of following it. And that followed a taunting penalty on Owens after the Niners scored the go-ahead score.

Owens is lucky today that the niners held on, and lucky that the Giants safeties retaliated becuase had they not, the Giants would have gained 15 yards, and would be in even greater position to win the ballgame.

Terrell Owens is a jerk. I sure am glad this loser isn't on my favorite football team.

I want to get this right. Owens had the stupidest play you've ever seen but he's lucky that the Giants safeties retaliated but those retaliations weren't the new stupidest plays you've ever seen? LOL That's great.

I like Shockey and Owens but they both had stupid moments today.

Cumulative NFL players' intelligence/IQ has been on the decline for some time now. Shockey is a great player, but the taunts are not needed. Taunts are bad, but injuring others via personal fouls and cheap shots are worse.

At least Shockey is young, and can claim immaturity. TO? The man is mind boggling. Huge, HUGE talent. Tiny, TINY brain.

Another Brother -- I know where you are going with this. You never seem to tire of trying to incite race riots around here.

Shockey inadvertently threw ice water on a child. Warren Sapp intentionally crippled another player, then directly cursed out and threatened a head coach. Surely you can see the difference, even with your Johnny Cochran goggles on.

    Get over it, funny man.

THat was a game of stupid superstars:

Strahan: I was rooting for the G-men until he did the scoreboard thing to TO.

TO- What can you say, he is a cloane of Randy Moss. Great talent, but could be the best ever at his position.

Shockey- Great talent, maybe someday he can join the WWE.

Trader Jorge, I normally don't agree with alot that you say, but I do agree about the "johnny cochran glasses" comment. However, AB is right. Shockey is an idiot, black or white. Now, if you're implying that he posted this because Shockey is white, that's very questionable.

    Edit - I don't condone Shockey's juvenile behavior, but he's a beast.

You're right -- it is questionable. It's also "answerable". The answer is he absolutely posted it on those grounds. This thread is very clearly a spoof of the "Warren Sapp is an embarrassment to football" thread -- one of the most hotly contested threads of 2002. Is it coincidence that AB chose the exact words used in that thread? Is it further coincidence that AB chose Shockey, who is white, to highlight, instead of Terrell Owens, Shaun Williams, or Michael Strahan, all players who acted like morons today?

Some posters around here are just a broken record -- desparately trying to draw attention to racial unrest. I have no idea why this is anyone's goal, but let's face it -- it is.

He may also be the only guy on this board who thinks OJ really was innocent.

Those retaliations by the Giants saftiess were also dumb, but Terrell did not retaliate when he shoved the guy after he was 2 feet out of bounds.

Terrell Owens was not provoked, the Giants players were provoked by Owens stupid play. thus Owens play was dumber.

The fact that there may be a hidden reason for starting this thread means nothing to me, so I'm not going to get into that.

This is a valid sports question and I'm going to treat it as such.

Owens is absolutely NOT a clone of Randy Moss. Both have ungodly talent, but thats where it ends. Owens shows up 100% of the time and plays his heart out on every play. Moss has admitted to taking plays off and game tape from this season has shown where he has not fufilled his blocking assignments or run his routes completely, leading to lost yardage and even a loss.

Both Owens and Shockey are tremendous players. Some think their attitude is what the game needs, to keep it from becoming boring. I think the plays within the field are entertaining enough. I don't need this "I'm the best, give me props, I'm the MAN!" attitude cluttering up what takes place between the lines. Sportsmanship is something we are all taught as children, and after today's showing... seems to be something that some professional athletes are forgetting. What happened to the days of Barry Sanders? He was the most electrifying runner of the 1990s, but when he scored a TD, he placed the ball down on the field and walked back to the sideline. He let his performance do the talking, rather than mugging for the cameras or pulling childish stunts.

You know Trader, even if AB was doing what you claim, you don't have to come out of the gates so aggresive. Just like there wasn't enough evidence to convict OJ, guilty or not, there is definitely not enough evidence to accuse AB of what you are accusing him of.

I personally think Shockey seems like an immature spoiled brat who, like Owens, and Sapp, think that their immense talent means that they can act like Jr. Highschoolers and get away with it. It amazes me to no end how it is so hard to find great talents without the even greater egos. Before the pittsburg game when Sterling Sharpe and Keyshawn Johnson were comparing each others stats I seriously had to change the channel to the discovery channel. If these guys would only realize that real sports fans know exactly what kind of player they are and they don't need to hype themselves then maybe they would stop. Look at a guy like Marvin Harrison, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, these are the real studs of the sports world. They play like men and they act like men.

And yes, TO was incredibly stupid today, but the Giants made the all-time studpiest retribution mistakes I have ever seen in any sport. Twice, one right after the other on the same player. I think that they should both be cut. They made TO look like a genius. He was able to toy with them and not get any penalities. I think NFL teams need to dedicate one practice a week to maturity training, it would save them about eighty yards a game.
