i think 6 minute miles is doable with 6 months training (20-25 miles per week), plus i hate to be one of those dudes that look fit but get tired after running for 30 seconds or can only do 2 pullups.

This. I choose cycling (riding the hike/bike trails) at least 5 times a week and I get to ride farther to see other places. In 5 years since I started this, I have not had knee pain, or foot pain. Most importantly, I do not get sick unless someone transferred their germ to me, or not enough rest/sleep. I have not had a sick day at work since I started riding my bike. And I don't have testy problems. Running is cheaper and easier to achieve the goal of losing weight, or become more healthy. I like my nicely shaped legs and thighs.

I think the overall problem is most people can't handle running because of their sedentary lifestyle that not only makes them overweight, but also messes up their mechanics.

Plenty of people run daily miles without pain, so it's not unheard of or impossible. If you're overweight and walk incorrectly though, you're going to have a hard time with even 2-3 miles 3 times a week. Getting off your feet may feel better, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're doing something that's helping you more or solving a problem. You could just hope in your car instead and it would probably feel better too. ;)

Yeah, from what i understand 6-7 is pretty good. Sub 6 is great, as the record for a mile i think is just under 4 minutes.

In a bball context, i'd say:

    4-5 min = 35 ppg

    5-6 min = 30 ppg

    6-7 min = 25 ppg

    7-8 min = 20 ppg

    8-9 min = 15 ppg
