I am obligated to give Rudy some credit for showing some slack albeit subtle. In the final minute of play (Rox V Griz), the Rockets were up by 2 and with the ball - sadly as usual our set play got broken up so I was afraid that we would suffer another dumb basketball moment......(we did)....but Francis (to his 'credit') by 'default' miraculous made a difficult last resort kind of an acrobatic which he made. Interesting the camera flashed to Rudy immediately to see his reaction and what I saw shocked me because I did not see it in him - Rudy actually grimaced and frowned (in spite of the made basket....wow.... I was shocked) though I bet he was relieved. What that reaction mean't to me was that Rudy is frustrated of preaching the same old stuff. So does that mean his star guards are not listening to him any more? Did anyone notice this? Oh btw, I 'll take "boring" basketball to go with fries, Mobley.
He can coach...but what he seems to not be able to do, is discipline. SIT THEIR A$$ES on the bench if they don't do what the coach wants. DD
During another game, I think it was against the Pistons, Moochie was setting up the play horribly, and Rudy T. practically walked to the middle of the court and called a timeout. He started explaining to the guys what they should be doing, and Moochie was just shaking his head. I'm suprised nobody has mentioned this.
Absolutely.... Rudy has been spoiled with quality veterans, like Mario Elie, Kenny Smith, Matt Bullard, Scott Brooks, etc. Who'll not only listen, but also know how and when to shoot the ball... Fegwu, How can he not be frustrated?
Yes, I saw this too, and it was against the Pistons. I've also been wondering exactly what made Rudy T call the time out, because he called it just as someone (Cat or Steve?) passed the ball to Mooch on the left wing right in front of the Rox bench, and Mooch had just started his dribble when Rudy called the TO. Since Mooch just started his dribble, it coudn't have been the iso dribble x 10 we all know and love that Rudy was mad at. Maybe they were running the wrong play, or maybe someone in the front court (Yao or MoTay?) was so far out of position to piss him off enough to call the TO? I couldn't tell.
Hey Friday, Look at the names you just mentioned.... He makes a big difference coaching Vets instead of youngsters.... I guess this is the big reason Phil Jackson said he would never coach a re-building team.....
It was one of those things. Because I did notice that ther was nobody underneath the basket, everyone was just all spread out. Moochie seemed upset, so I'm thinking he called the wrong play.
T_Man, Yeah, it's made a difference in the wins and losses, but more importantly in the ability for the plays he calls to actually be played out. I think he try's, but nobody's listening. Those guy's (Smith, Elie..) did some bone headed things too I'm sure, but I just don't remember at the moment. IMHO, 1. I think Francis is a tremendous talent, but he likes to wing it and be the hero far to much. 2. Mobley thinks he's freaking A.I. 3. Moochie should be happy to be playing and has no business winging it. I get the feeling Rudy is so frustrated that anyday now, we'll see the Rudy of old... Sunkin baggy eyes and that cup he always sippin' wont be soda anymore... Cheers...
Agreed. Rudy can coach. He's especially a good coach for mature veterans because the veterans would like the fact that Rudy let them make the decisions and plays for him. But the sad thing is that we now have a bunch of immature kids bar Rice and Yao (who despite young and has a mature brain) but Rudy still allows them to do what they please and that's what the problem arises.
