I just read this on cbssportsline: a factor that could also kill the deal is Rice's foot, which is a cause of concern for Houston. Does anyone know anything about this? When does rice have a physical? does anyone know when the deal will be officially completed??
so um...does anyone know anything about this? Is the info posted somewhere else? no one cares if rice has a bum foot? or.. What What? WHAATT??!!! (sorry, that's the liquor talking)
He took a physical yesterday and passed it because it was said that the injury wasn't serious, and the Rockets said that the Rice was durable so he must have been healthy.
I injured my plantar facia (the same injury as Rice) playing BBall in a Y league a few months back, and I couldn't play for four weeks. I actually felt it pop when it happened. When I came back, I played very cautiously at first. Now, I have no problems. My foot doc told me it is a common injury in jumping sports, and that sometimes it can be a chronic problem, if someone tries to come back too quickly. I think it happened because I did not ever stretch my calves. I'll tell you one thing - you can't do anything right on the court if your feet are not right. Again, however, I am now feeling no ill effects. However, I play BBall only a fraction of the time that Rice does, so there is always a chance that he might not be letting it heel. I would bet that the cast he was in did the trick.
I ran track in college several years ago and developed plantar faciaitis. It is the lining that covers your muscles. If you ever cleaned chicken, it is that shinny film that covers the meat. Facia covers all muscles but is a common problem in the foot due to the obvious usage in that area. Plantar Facia is what is in your feet. The good news about it is it will not cause long term leg problems. If you can deal with the pain, you can play through it. But it IS extremely painful. For me, it took a very very long time to recover from because it is difficult to do anything without using your feet. I had an option for elective surgery but opted not to since I was a senior in spring semester. GRice, I read, actually put a cast on his leg to immobilize his foot so it would heal properly. So he should be just fine. It's not like he's recovering from a torn ACL or bad knees that hampers mobility. Even if it flairs up again, he can continue to play. -krosfyah
Thanks for the info Krosfah. Was your problem chronic, i.e., did you get better and reinjure it? Also, what is the surgery? My ortho told me there is nothing you could do but stay off it, and have therapy.
van exel hurt his plantar facia last year and was suppose to be out for a few weeks. i dont know why, but instead he toughed it out and missed i think one or no games at all. i dont even think his play got worse (on average) after the injury either. although at the end of the season when we were way out of the playoff race i think he got a few games off to rest anyways.
It took me a LONG LONG time to recover. Granted, as a distance runner booking 70 miles a week, it is difficult to treat. I eventually stopped running and worked out on the bike and it did get somewhat better. I eventually graduated and just stopped running and it went away completely. The surgery is a last resort option. It is my understanding that GRice actually had the surgery. That is why he was in a cast. -krosfyah
Valio and others, I'm an orthopedic surgeon. Please read my post on thread entitled "More information on Rice's injury (or something close to that). Hope the information is useful. Dallas Rocket
Thanks Dallas Rocket! Great post. I learned way more from your post that from the ortho I saw. However, he only talked to me about two minutes, because it was one of those HMO deals.
TheFreak - About the midday drinking - I posted that on Saturday, so my bosses dont care what I do...though I do have to hide my weekday breakfast cocktails from them
