Lots of back and forthing about whether or not the media and people are treating Sarah Palin fairly. Is it fair to question her policies, family, background? What is fair and what isn't? There is precedent, in 1984 Geraldine Ferraro was a VP candidate and she was maliciously attacked on all levels, here is an article about her: Link to article about Ferraro Excerpts from the article: -------------------------------------------------------------------- "She sees parallels in the treatment of Mrs Palin over recent days with that dished out to her as Walter Mon-dale’s running-mate. “People did not know how to deal with me, they went after my background . . . they went after my husband and family.” Within a month of her nomination Ms Ferraro, a New York Congresswoman of Italian descent, was besieged by questions over her experience, her family and her beliefs. Her husband, John Zaccaro, was falsely accused of having Mafia ties as a wave of allegations about his tax returns and real-estate deals broke over their family. Nor were the attacks confined to the press. Asked what she thought of Ms Ferraro, Barbara Bush – the wife of the vice-president of the day – replied: “I can’t possibly say it, but it rhymes with rich." --------------------------------------------------------------------- So it bugs me when people wonder why her 17 year old daughter's pregnancy is relevant, or her alleged cheating on her husband, or her trying to fire a librarian because she would not ban books at the local library. I don't have any problems at all with whatever the media digs up, she chose to run, and it is up to each person to decide whether or not the stuff they find out matters or not. To me, having someone this far right, is scary with McCain's age, I really like John McCain but can not afford to vote for him because of his record. So, do you guys think that Palin is being treated fairly or not? To me, she is just getting exactly what Obama and McCain and Biden get.....and if there is equal pay for equal work (something I support) then there should be equal scrutiny. DD
Free reign on the stuff that matters -- experience, vision, knowledge of national issues. Tabloid frenzy and distortion on stuff that doesn't and on her record in Alaska.
I think in today's world it all matters, and politicians should expect it......if they have skeletons they are going to come out....and the public can decide for themselves how important those skeletons are..... DD
My wife bought the US weekly magazine with Sara Palin on the cover. It was actually a double cover. One side was with Sarah, the flip side was with Obama and Michelle. In the magazine, US put all the rumors in print. One thing that was left out, where were all of Obama's rumors? They completely left out all the scandals and rumors that Obama have surrounding him. BTW...The attacks are to be expected. I think McCain and the RNC knows that(they are the experts at it). Now they are playing the victim to garner more sympathy votes. That's just how it goes.
I don't think being treated fairly means that she is being treated like everyone else. I think she is being treated bad like everyone else but I wouldn't call it fair. The more we do this, the more we will get crap running for office.
No kidding, her record in Alaska is 100% germaine to the discussion about her qualifications. I mean how protected do people want her to be? "pay no attention to the lady behind the green curtain" "these are not the droids you are looking for" Come on......she joined the fray, and if she is going to be the attack dog, she needs to be treated just like another of the boys. DD
What do you expect? You throw a completely unknown entity into the most intense media lens in America and not expect a feeding frenzy? of course it's fair
I believe she is being treated fairly in political terms but I hate that America and its citizens are so wrapped up in the private lives of politicians, celebrities, hell even each other but that's the way it is.
She is being treated fairly on some stuff and way better than fairly on other stuff. The stuff about her personal life is stupid and reprehensible and I wish they wouldn't do it, but they do it to everyone so it's fair. On everything else she's getting a free ride. She is an extremist freak on many issues including abortion and nobody's hearing anything about any of that in the media.
Do you think the Dems are waiting to launch into that at an appropriate time? Sort of let all the other stuff wash over then hit her with the real issues as it gets closer to the election. DD
Its fair because everyone has to deal with the same personal probes. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IYRC4H64EFk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IYRC4H64EFk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Doesn't mean I like it or its right, but it is fair treatment.
You left out my vote -- that she's being treated far too fairly. Her record on the issues is frightening. But yet again, the mainstream press backs down when challenged, and has this bizarre notion that towing the middle equates to doing their jobs. Their job should be to report the truth, and sometimes the truth isn't down the middle.
Exactly. I didn't vote either for that reason. DD: Yes and no. The Democrats are kind of waiting for the media to do their job, but they're surely not counting on it.
I agree 100%. The same people in the RNC that are screaming that Palin is being picked on are the VERY same people that were saying that it was fair game and to be expected when it was happening to Hillary Clinton. DOUBLE STANDARD.
If making up stories about Alaska seceding, bringing up the husbands 20 year old DUI, lying about an affair, saying she should be at home with the kids, and attacking a 17-year old daughter and a 4 month old Downs baby is treating a woman fairly, then yes, she is being treated quite fairly.
