What do you think about our back court with DA and Rafer? People are talking about Chris Paul and Speedy gonna give us hard time. Can any other back court dominate us? Baron Davis and J. Rich come to mind. Parker and Ginobili too.

IMO, our backcourt is about average, in the middle of the pack. We cant have all stars at each postition on the team due to salary cap situations. With our current make of the team, all we need are solid complementary pieces to Yao/Tmac combo. I think Rafer/DA/Luther/Wesley/JB are more than adequate in filling that position. As the year progresses, chemistry should improve and our backcourt will look much better.

Our backcourt is by no means at the top of the league, but it isn't bad either. They're very capable players. You're talking about our backcourt not being able to stop Chris Paul and J.R. Smith, but tell me exactly how Chris Anderson and Boki Nachbar are going to stop Yao and McGrady.

By the way, Chris Paul and J.R. Smith are going to be one of the best backcourts in the league for years to come. Maybe they aren't quite the best yet, but they're going to be.

Oh, and to answer your question about other talented backcourts, see Milwaukee. Ford and Redd are a pretty impressive tandem.

Our backcourt is the key to our season. Our front line (including reserves) may be the best in the NBA. CD/JVG did the best they could this summer with what they had to work with and we have a lot of new players. It will take Skip & DA time to find their place in the schemes and get comfortable, when they can just start playing without thinking. When that happens, we should be in good shape. Skip shows flashes that excite me. You can tell he hasn't mastered his role yet. I have a feeling it's going to click one day for him and this team will go to the next level. If not, we are in trouble. Maybe it will take a three way sit-down with him, T-Mac and JVG.

Don't even worry about DA. I'm 100% sure he will have a good year if injuries don't slow him. And later in the year, it's possible Luther could crack the rotation, but don't bank on it. One thought: If DA or JB misses time with injuries, Luther is next in line. I'm also "officially" worried about Wesley. He'd better get his shot back or else.

We have the best front court in the NBA. Enough said.

^ Agreed, our backcourt is mediocre at best. As much as I like DA, Alston, Barry, Wesley, they are really in the middle of the pack, at best. But when you add superstars like TMac and Yao, its make them that much better.

our backcourt will be fine. no, they wont be one of the best in the league but they get the job done that is needed out of them. we don't need them to be the scoring leaders of our team. we just need smart play and the ability to hit open jumpers out of them. our front court is the key.

Our backcourt is a liability. Not against most teams, but against the teams we'll face in the playoffs. Billups and Hamilton are a handful. Parker and Ginboli are young and experienced at what they do. They're who I'm most worried about. We can say we have the best frontcourt in the league, but how much of an advantage do we really have over the spurs there? They don't have the most talented roster, but it's balanced enough to cause problems for us.

We have the Spurs beat at C & SF hands down. Obviously Duncan gives them a big advantage at PF. Right now, they beat us by a mile in the backcourt. By seasons end we can hopefully close the gap. If our team defense comes together, we can give the Spurs fits. On offense, both Yao & T-Mac present problems for them. They are better than we are, but if we hit our stride at playoffs time, they've gotta beat us 4 times before moving on.

I'm not as worried about those guys. In crunch time we'll be putting T-mac on their toughest offensive perimeter player anyway. Billups was neutalized in Game 7 of the finals by Bowen, and we'll let Wes chase Rip around since his game isn't going to exploit Wes' shortness that much anyway.

Ginobli is a bit more up in the air. I'm confident in T-mac, but Manu is a tough cover. Parker is such an up and down player, I don't really fear him that much. And if Rafer can amp up his defense in a year of JVG's tutelage then between him and Wesley, I won't fear Parker at all.
