After the trade deadline and the buyout period (the Ben Gordon infatuation) passed, do you think our roster is already set? Can DM still sign a player who played overseas who can still be an added weapon for the playoffs?
We can still sign a player who hasn't played for any other nba team this season. An active player on a current nba team had to be waived by March 1 but FA's can be whenever. For example the spurs did it last year with tmac. The attempt from our front office was apparently we tried to get papa from Barcelona to come over however Gerson couldn't make a deal with him or barca
I think Donatas is the better fit for the playoffs considering how the game will slow down and become more half court. Other than that I think we are ready.
Jamison was waived on February 21st by the Hawks. He is available for the post season this year. I am a bit surprised that DM hasn't apparently gone after him. He probably doesn't have much left in the tank, but he could help Jones and D-Mo out. I guess management is interested in knowing how Daniels will perform.
were 3 deep at every spot but PF & C... Jamison & camby or someone morey randomly finds someone like bev last year. We will need bigs just in case, even Trob in Portland has been coming in the game bullying guys on the boards lately, not sure how dmo & jones will do against guys like him and big baby. In playoff just 5 mins can change the outcome of an game. Jamison- to have a guy spread the floor make the other team respect his 3 if howard is really handling a guy and teams are forced to double team. Also has a body to get respect down low on D and rebound. Vet with experience just in case dmo or jones can’t handle the playoffs a few games, he can step in and at least make the right decisions and rotations. camby- if he is healthy bring him in as 3rd center, just in case asik or howard can’t go one night in the playoffs. We don’t have smith anymore. PG- a vet would be nice at pg to have around also a guy like brooks. If a guard cant go one night canaan will have to be our guy off the bench. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/6GtU1xho3CE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I thought we had a roster sport open since Greg Smith had season ending surgery. I wonder is DM going to bring Camby back since we had him at the beginning of the year and he was still able to work out at Rockets facilities.
Let us just say that the roster is "practically" set. No white knight will appear on the horizon to fill Rockets roster rotations. If (and that is a big if) anyone is signed they will occupy the last couple of chairs on the bench.
Smith is going to be part of the 15 players on our roster, unless he is cut. I think that is unlikely to occur.
Jamison might be able to do quite a few things that you mentioned for 5-15 minutes a game if he is fit, but he can't bring any D to the team. I would still like to have his veteran presence for the playoffs.
My two concerns are Power Forward and Point Guard. Those are our two weakest positions in a West where point guards and power forwards are elite. I worry about TJ and DMo going against Griffin, Duncan, Aldridge, Dirk, Lee and possibly ZBo and Lin and Bev going against Westbrook, CP3, Parker, Dragic,, Lillard and Curry. Having Asik as a back up big man is kinda of comforting but I would have liked to sign a true power forward and get rebounds ala Davis. I'm not as worried about point as I am towards our power forwards I think Bev and hopefully Lin can provide adequate numbers there. We are most likely going with these two lineups in close games in the playoffs, depending on matchups and situations Bev/Lin Harden Hamilton Parsons Howard For small ball teams and lineups. Bev / Lin Harden Parsons Howard Asik For bigger teams.
Any player that was waived and/or bought out by their team needed to be signed by a new team by March 1st to be eligible for playoffs. So, we can only sign a player that has not played in the NBA for another team this year. Very limited players in that market that Morey would want. With G Smith going down Camby is probably the only logical move at this point to add a backup big and a vet. He wont be relied upon to be in the rotation. Let's just hope Hamilton keeps getting more and more comfortable with the team. We could use him off the bench come playoff time.
Roster is set but the problem is that the team played very very few game with all members present and healthy. As such, chemistry will definitely be a question come playoff time. The question to ask now is less who else might be coming, but how well can the current members (esp. Asik and Hamilton) play with the other guys as a team.
if smith is out of the season can morey use the injured player exception to sign camby without waiving anyone?
If I'm not mistaken.. A player doesn't have to be signed before March 1st, as long as they were released before that date, they are eligible to sign with any team.
