It seems that the window has already closed or will close after this year, I use to believe superstars can play well until the age of 30 and then their game diminishes but for tmac playing so many seasons has already taken a toll on his athleticism and since yao is playing like crap this year.... getting blocked, missing close shots, and not even being able to dunk the ball, I feel his game is going downhill....but the future is bright, landry and brooks amaze me, dorsey will become a force eventually and even scola has been playing solid

I refuse to accept this and hence do not believe it is true.

It's not so much aging as it is injury recovery/fatigue, in my opinion. I mean, Yao looked good against Dallas. Likewise for T-Mac against Portland.

I think a lot of it is confidence. Yao is being very cautious about leaving his feet and has no lift-- same with T-Mac. We can't do much about that until they themselves decide that they want to get it done again. They may both be kind of gimpy, but all that matters is come playoff time we can have everyone on our team at 100%. That's why I agree with some people on the board saying we should just let T-Mac sit out for a few games and hopefully have him really assess where his leg and nagging injuries are at, and the same thing for Yao as in not necessarily letting him take games off, but definitely limiting his minutes. Rick has been playing Yao way way way too much given what he's said he had planned to do this season, and frankly I'm sick of him not giving our two stars a bit more time to recuperate before we hit the mid-season stride.

these threads are stupid, its 7 games in for the rockets and they have only had about 2 bad games each.. they are both coming off injuries and they have both proved what they can do still... Yao vs Dallas and Mac vs Portland. tmac carried us that game. give it 2 weeks before you assume things

Don't think it's really because of age... they just don't fit well together. Ever notice how when Yao is out due to injury TMac steps it up and plays really well and vice versa. Sure, they might have games here and there where they both look fantastic in the same game... but in general, I don't think they really have any synergies playing together like Kobe and Shaq did.

Somebody post our record when both of our superstars are playing. It's ridiculously good.

they're not superstars anymore. i'm sure both will return to their normal level of play but they're not superstars. superstars don't have these kinds of stretches where they're "soft" or "mentally weak."

furthermore, both are injury-proned. i just hope both are healthy and peaking in the playoffs. we have a team now. we don't live and die by them.

but it def. helps if tracy shows up AT LEAST (unlike the last 2 games) and yao plays like he's 7'6 rather than 5'6. i have never seen 2 more overrated players in my life (tracy has become vastly overrated the last 2 years; and yao has always been overrated simply b/c he was never a franchise-level player).

i just hope they will wake up soon, get healthy, bring shane and deke back, and everything will be fine. but let's be real, these guys are no longer superstars. anyone who think that is just fooling themselves and giving themselves false hope.

Aging maybe tells something, but not all, look at San Antonio, their best players only Tony is 26-year-old now,but each season they all played very well, especially the ending season...

however, as frustrated as i am of tracy and yao right now b/c they clearly are playing way below what they should be playing (tracy going from scoring against the best defense in boston to laying eggs in LA; yao going from dominating the mavs to getting outplayed by the likes of perkins and pryzbilla).

they ARE coming back from injuries. yao is probably still recovering from that stress fracture surgery. i mean, how do you explain his pathetic attempt at jumping these last few games. it's like he's glued to the court.

tracy is coming back from multiple injuries and he still is LIMPING out there.

i don't know if they ever will get healthy. but i'm sure they'll be better physically than they are right now. and if their play remains the same, yes, they're on the decline. but i'm optimistic they'll be back to their scoring 20ppg ways.

tracy still has the ability (you saw it in the boston/blazer game). yao still has the offensive game (v. dallas). they just need more time to get it together and hopefully they will.

nothing to do with age right now.

all about personal desire and management.

    enough excuses already.

    play the game.

I don't think so. After some losses, people with high expectation would be wondering why the Rox lost games.

Actually, this year's Rox is not much better than last year's.

We had Ron but Battier is still out.

Both Yao and TMac are after major operation. Yao's playing minutes are too high in the first few games and he is adjusting to NBA pace having absent from it for almost 8 months.

Ron's playing time is also significant and he needs more time to gel with the team, in particular Yao and TMac.

The only thing that is better than last year is a much deeper bench and players like AB, LS and CL are more experienced and solid.

Be patient, I am sure this Rox team will surprise us after about 2 months.

It's their marriages that make them aging. we had never seen any sign of their aging before they get married, but they both started to downhill rapidly right after they got married. In biology, before they got married, their testicles were working for themselves. however, their testicles have been being exhausted after their got married. their testicles keep working day after night not for themselves but for their spouses. their testicles have no energy left to stimulate them when they play basketball so it's no wonder they suck on court. But why doesn't ron suck? ron is also married as we all know. :D
he has two more pairs of testicles. ron's six testicles can always produce sufficient products to fit his need.

Hakeem was 31 when he won his first championship. He also won MVP, DPY, and Final MVP that year, all after the age of 30.

I do believe that the injuries that have plagued both Yao and TMac during the last few years have "reset" their skill levels at a lower level. They can still have above average games like TMac's 30 pt performance the other night, but by and large they are not able to consistently perform at the level they once did. Yao appears to be well past his peak. I certainly hope I am wrong, but that is the way it looks to me.
