It's common knowledge that McGrady is on his way out. I'm curious to see what they get in return once the trading deadline passes. Many out there (including myself) feel that the Rockets made a bad move by publicly stating his availability. This bad move usually hinders potential moves in regards to the player. Is Morey's credibility or reputation on the line? Afterall, it was his decision to go about this in the current manner (along with Adelman). Can Morey rebound from this mistake? Is he really as good as we might think? I mean sure he's done a lot of good things in the draft and etc but so has Kevin Pritchard. Common knowledge around the league is that Pritchard is horrible when it comes to negotiating trades. This is the reason the Blazers havn't been able to land any talents outside of the draft. We have to wait till the trading deadline but I have a hard believing teams are salivating to add McGrady to their roster. His ppg, mpg, constant internal rumblings have caused his value to drop: mainly to his own actions but the Rockets definitely didn't do themselves any favors by lowering this already damaged value. Hopefully we don't have to settle for less and Morey can prove himself. He's made some good moves and some bad moves. This trade can defy his legacy in my opinion. Thoughts?
How can it be called a mistake if we haven't even seen the results yet? And People want McGrady for his contract not for his abilities.
I think there is pressure on him considering the circumstance but I do not think his reputation is on the line. He is not going to force a trade for the sake of trading, bad business. Morey is human and can make mistakes but u have to look at his body of work and not just one specific thing.
These moves (or lack thereof) shouldn't be judged for quite some time. He is, in essence, playing basketball chess...where his every current move is calculated off of planning for a number of moves/countermoves/additional moves/additional countermoves down the road. We might be giving him a little too much credit...but Morey is so forward thinking, I'm sure that guy is already thinking five years down the road whereas we (the fans) only see the rest of this season, this summer and next season. I'll keep faith in him...even with what has transpired this season so far.
If you mean trading/keeping TMac is most challenging task Morey had so far, then answer is yes. What he will get in return for trading TMac or from salary cap saved for summer will define the course of this team for next 3 years. While I pray that Morey can pull off a Paul Gasol trade, only time can tell if Morey can succeed. For now, I am just waiting.... In Morey We Trust!
Don't know about his "legacy" because IMO the summer of 2011 with a new hard cap in place and Yao's contract expiring along with any other FA or players we might acquire via trade that expires then(Caron Butler) will be the make it or break it time for the team he has currently constructed. Now I will say this trade deadline marks a crossroads for the franchise and if Morey makes the right move with TMAC's contract then it could set up the franchise nicely for years to come or with the wrong move set this club back for a LONG time considering the ominous hard cap scenario to come.
No coming into the season Tmac was already considered a clear liability around the league. Injured, past his prime, with a huge contract. Even if things turn out badly, it wasn't Morey who muffed an asset into a liability, the view around the league was that Morey was dealt a lemon with Tmac, he might make lemonade or it might just stay a lemon. Either way it's not Morey who screwed things up if he doesn't pull a rabbit out of a hat on a Tmac deal. Morey's legacy is on the line as far as you, StacyMcGrady3, are concerned but since you're not an owner, GM, player, agent or press it doesn't really matter. chances are even if Morey's legacy does become trashed for you, chances are by this time next year you'll have forgotten all about it, or have changed your mind on his legacy 6x by then depending on how many streaks the Rockets go through in that time
I think the Rockets want to position themselves to be a contender next season. I would wait until next November before considering if his reputation has been tarnished.
Yeah, people were claiming his reputation was tarnished when he traded Rafer for Lowry. People said he was an idiot when he drafted Aaron Brooks. See my signature and just trust him for a little while.
Yes, his legacy is on the line. How well he does with this one big chip will determine the near-term future of the franchise and, with it, Morey's reputation.
Daryl Morey will make the best possible decision available... All there is to it. He won't make any 'mistakes' based on his and the organization's opinion.
Not concerned...even if we end up keeping TMac (off the roster, though) or buying him out. I just don't want any big crappy contracts in return. In Morey We Trust
Any GM in the history of the NBA would find it near impossible to turn Tmac's contract (as it stands now) into a championship piece for his franchise on its own. It's not like Les is giving him another 20 million next year to build the team. You guys are expecting way too much from Morey.
