    Bulls Parade McGrady at Wrigley

    By RICK GANO
    AP Sports Writer

CHICAGO (AP) — Tracy McGrady, wearing a bright orange shirt with a huge chain around his neck, popped out of the dugout at Wrigley Field followed by an entourage of publicists, his agent and Chicago Bulls head coach Tim Floyd.

The parade progressed from one side of the field to the other, from one clubhouse to the other, stopping for McGrady to sign a few autographs and then to meet Sammy Sosa — of course — before moving on to the next stage of his weekend star treatment.

McGrady, at age 21 one of the NBA's most eligible free agents, was being recruited Saturday at the very highest level, an example of what the league's month-long negotiating period has become.

When he arrived at the airport Friday, McGrady was greeted by dancers, a team mascot and a band playing ``Sweet Home, Chicago.''

McGrady got to hang out with prospective teammate Elton Brand, sample the city's nightlife, chat with team officials and then head to the ball park where, in a Bulls' cap, he threw out the first pitch of the White Sox-Cubs baseball game with Sosa as his catcher.

McGrady's reported itinerary also included a cruise on the yacht of Chicago Blackhawks' owner William Wirtz.

``I've never been greeted like this,'' McGrady said.

It doesn't mean he's coming to Chicago. He says he still plans to meet with officials of the Toronto Raptors, where he spent his first three years, and then make a decision between the Bulls and Orlando Magic, where most think he will end up.

``My heart is going to tell me when it's time for me to pick a team,'' said McGrady. Free agents can't sign until Aug. 1.

``I'm just going to look and see what team I will have a relationship with management and players and where I feel comfortable and where I will be able to handle being in the city for the next six or seven years.''

But he also wants to go where there's a chance to win and that points to Orlando. The Magic have already landed Grant Hill, who announced his intentions to leave Detroit on Friday for a six-year, $67.5 million deal.

``My decision is going to be based on how I feel in the next couple of weeks,'' the 6-8 McGrady said.

``Basically, I don't think I will be going back to Toronto. The battle is between Orlando and Chicago, that's it. I'm feeling comfortable about both situations.''

The Bulls are trying to use the red carpet treatment to sway his decision. For Floyd, it's just like his recruiting days as a college coach with one big exception — there are no limits on perks or wining and dining.
