It said it was recorded in Miami... I love LK's music, but I haven't heard this song... I wish we didn't have to go to war, but it was SH's choice... I draw the line on artists by them being anti-war and/or anti-Bush (e.g. Dixie Chicks, M Moore, Hollywood, etc.)...
why would he be considered a traitor? because he recorded with an iraqi pop star? let's remember bush's fight is with saddam, not with the iraqi people.
Because it seems that everyone who is against this war is labelled either unpatriotic, unAmerican, or a traitor. At least that's the impression that has been made IMHO. He made an anti-war/peace song, so he must be against this war, correct?
Kravitz isn't a traitor for having an anti-war song. Intimating that pro-war people would call Kravitz a traitor for this is just as bad as when pro-war people say that anti-war people are anti-troop. Doesn't work that way. This is also different than the Dixie Chicks because he is giving his view of the war, and calling for peace. I have a problem w/ the Chicks and Michael Moore because they personally attacked Bush and that sort of this is just uncalled for (not for opposing Bush but in the manner that they did it)
Just because a few people who have jumped on anti-war protesters doesn't mean EVERYBODY believes that about anti-war protesters. On the flip side, there are a lot of people against the war that consider people who support it as war mongers, and people who support death and destruction. So all people supporting must be war mongers supporting death correct? Or am I labeling an entire group of people because of the comments of a few?
Not a traitor, he's free to espouse whatever nonsense he feels like. I just put him in the simple-minded, "Why can't we just have peace instead of war? I just think that peace is so much better" category.
Yeah... and "it seems that everyone who is for this war is labelled either warmonger, greedy for oil, or uncaring of Iraqi civilian lives. At least that's the impression that has been made IMHO." There's a big difference between being anti-American and being anti-war, it's just that a few of the anti-war people seem to not like America too much.
Exactly. Neither side is immune from blanket generalizations. Bravo Mr. Clutch! That's the best thing I've ever seen you post on this BBS...IMHO!
That's my point. People are saying "Look at people calling anti-war people unamerican and traders", then on the flip said "You people supporting the war are blindly following the U.S., following Bush, you're sheep". It goes both ways. It's one thing to question the agenda of the war, but some people can't stop with that. People have to start going after the U.S. as a whole, saying they're killing civilians as if it's on purpose, then going after Bush and those people who are supporting this right now.
LK is not a traitor... he didn't try to blow up any of our troops... You know who is a traitor? That jerky that threw a few grenades into a tent of officers. That my BBS friends, is a traitor.
Agreed on both points. The grenade throwing idiot sucks. I don't consider LK a traitor as long as his song wasn't bashing anyone. If all he wants is peace, I understand that. I have no problem with that. I want peace also, sometimes you have to fight for it though.
While the anti-war Hollywood types are getting annoying, they have a right to speak their opinions. Freedom of expression and the right to disagree are very American ideas. Now, of course, I also have a right to disagree with these celebrities... and to consider not buying their product if they get too obnoxious about it. rockHEAD gave a better definition of what an active traitor is. As for Lenny's new song, he's recording it with a Palestinian, an Iraqi, and a Lebanese. Why can't he have put an Israeli in there... then I would be more impressed with the "peace" collaboration. It would have been more representative of both sides. Though the last thing we want to see is that can of worms opened up on the bbs yet again...
Kravitz issued his song, "We Want Peace," which he recorded last week in Miami with popular Iraqi musical star Kadim Al Sahir, on the Web site of Rock the Vote (http://www.rockthevote.org/), a national organization which encourages young people to become involved in politics. Hmmmmm....encourages young people to become involved in a certain type of politics, perhaps?
Who gets the proceeds (I didn't see in the document)? If they goto the Iraqi citizens (or helping rebuild Iraq) then I believe it's ok. But if he's capitlaizing on the war to make himself money then I think it is wrong. Doesn't make him a traitor but I'm against making money off our soldiers fighting for our country,
I guess I should give an opinion on the actual thread! I don't think he's a traitor. The only way he is a traitor is if he is helping Saddam or he's throwing a concert with Saddam and his regime. Other then that, I don't really see a problem.
