If he can incorporate Spanoulis into the rotation then I will say he is hands down COY.

im not sure if theres noone in the east. If Washington can pick up their game and start winning again, especially without Jamison, than Eddie Jordan would have to be considered aswell. Other than that and the names youve already mentioned i cant see anyone else winning it so maybe he has a legit shot.

I think if JVG gets the team through the injuries and in the 3-5th seed....then he is most assuradly the coach of the year.

If Rockets' losses are never JVG's fault (according to many on this board, it's players that suck), why should he be credited with winning then?

I think it might come down to Jerry Sloan and JVG. Sloan hasn't won this award over the years but seemingly seems to get his team to play well. It might come down to which team has the better record at the end.

Probably will win it ... those awards place a premium on a coach doing something special, and JVG's stretch with Yao out has been special. The team's defense alone has won them many games.

Just as you can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink, you can prepare and coach your players to win the game, but you can't make them execute.

I obviously don't know from personal experience, but from what many people on the inside tend to say, nobody studies the opposition more closely or gets their team prepared better than Jeff Van Gundy does.

Personally I don't think he's infallible, but I believe he's done as good a job as anyone could possibly expect this season.

Well according to many people on this board the Rockets' losses are always because of JVG, and the wins are always in spite of him so I guess he shouldn't be eligible for anything.

I mean we all know that any bum on the street could take a team without its most dominate player and make them one of the Top 5 teams in the whole league...

has JVG even recieved an extension yet form the Rockets. I dont think so. I wonder if a coach of the year has ever not been resigned the year later

True. But they are playing in the Leastern Conference and the Rockets have far better record than the Raptors.

Sloan's jazz have cratered even before injuries hit, as usual. if they gave out "coach of the year" awards in November he'd be the greatest coach in history.

I think CD mentioned in an interview with SR610 that they will take care of JVG's contract in the offseason and that JVG's extension is all up to him so he's probably gonna get a contract extension.

it should go to Blazer's Nate Mcmillan for holding the team intact without internal trouble.

I've been saying all along that if the team wins 55+ games, Van Gundy should get the award. But just to be safe, we better finish ahead of Utah. Jerry Sloan is getting some serious run this season(and deservedly so).

Avery Johnson is a dark horse if the Mavs finish with 70 wins. True, they've suffered virtually no injuries this entire year, but that would be a truly sick accomplishment, especially without anyone named Michael Jordan on their squad.

In the 1990-91 season, Don Chaney won COY as the Rockets coach. The following season he was fired during the season and Rudy T. became coach of the Rockets!!
