I believe it is time, he needs to be getting the majority of the minutes, he is a much better player overall than Rafer, time to get him in the lineup with Tmac....and Yao. Start Brooks...... Who is with me? DD
I'm not sure it's time just yet. I think he's doing just fine coming off the bench. Could be soon, just in my humble opinion, not quite yet.
Brooks is better overall, but I think Rafer could be better if he just would focus more and not take boneheaded pull up jumpers on the break... My ideal starting line-up Alston Battier McGrady Scola Yao with Brooks, Landry, Head, and Hayes coming in when the situation calls for it... And if its half court game, for christ sakes put Deke in there, there is a reason he is the 2nd greatest shot blocker in history.
We can rely on Rafer's steady hand if and when AB starts to falter under pressure in games. Let's give AB a chance and see how it goes. There's nothing wrong with a 1-2 punch in the backcourt at the PG slot.
I think alston should continue to start, but coach a could treat him the same way he treated hayes. If he play badly, bench him immediately. AB and Scolar will be starters at the end of the season.
I don't think he's nearly as ready as his promise may have you think. PG is a tough, tough, tough, crucial position, and it's the hardest one for rookies. He's getting there, I love watching him play, but: -Brooks isn't consistent enough yet. His game against the Starbury-challenged Knicks was the only one on the "awesome" level. His 28 minutes in Portland was underwhelming at best. We could still get that out of Mike James if we wanted to hate ourselves. -He still has a tough time on defense. He's not bad, but he's not much above "holding his own" either. -The key thing for him to transition into starting at the 1 spot is not whether he can consistently hit 45% and get to the rim, it's whether he can set up his teammates. Only twice has he given us 5 assists or better in a game. Even if you look at them per 40 minutes, it's not all that encouraging. For the moment, it's best that he be a spark off the bench. Evan
I don't think Brooks is ready. He still gets the ball picked a lot and people tend to just shoot over him.
Brooks isn't comfortable enough and seems to make more mistakes the more he tries to do. Let him keep surprising other teams off the bench and make his rookie mistakes (I mean, PG is a very hard position to learn in the NBA) without costing us too much.
I'm curious to see how it would work out, but I'm skeptical that it would make us any better. I like Brooks as an off the bench energy boost.
I voted no... Rafer should stick as the main PG for the moment. If you remember the best games that AB has had, he and Rafer were playing at the same time. He has the potential to develop into a starter, but at this point he is still learning. Give him consistent minutes on the floor in each game and watch what develops. There's no need for him to start at the point as long as he's getting PT.
He's playing out of control in the minutes I've seen him play. Yes he's fast and he can penetrate but that out of control speed that he plays at gets turnovers. Those turnovers are from pentrating getting stripped or throwing off a bad pass to a teammate.
Yeah, let's start Brooks tonight against Baron Davis and see how that goes. Personally, I think Rafer is better with the starters than off the bench, and I especially like when Rafer and Brooks can be on the court at the same time, as matchups allow. I still think Brooks has some things to learn while playing the point, and he really is a great spark to bring in off the bench, especially now that Tmac is back on the court. By the end of the season, maybe Brooks starts, but at the moment I don't think Adelman should be adjusting the rotation with player development in mind. I think he just needs to play the rotation that will win each game. Of course, who starts isn't about who's better overall. It's about 5 guys that play well together. From there, you can bring other guys off the bench and even give them more minutes than the starters if they're playing better. I know it would be exciting to see the late-1st round rookie start, but the real question is whether the benefits of putting him on the court with the stars exceed the benefits of having Rafer on court with the stars. I'm inclined to trust Adelman's judgement on this one. And of course, you have to keep in mind that this starting lineup was, as Morey is fond of saying, the best in the league last year.
I have to disagree with you on this DD. Aaron has great potential but your decision is based on hatred. You would even start Moochie over Rafer or even Spanoulis.
