I obviously did a poor job of having our guys ready to play in the second half.--Gary Kubiak, 11/09/08. Look, I have never been one to jump on the "FIRE THE COACH!!!!!!!111!!!!!!!!!!!" bandwagon after a few bad games, but quotes like the one above are starting to become the norm after every loss and it's really starting to bug the crap out of me. How many times must we hear this? It seems like he's said that after every single (ugly) loss in his regime. Seems like there is some kind of glaring coaching mistake in every loss this year. The fake punt against Jacksonville, calling a bootleg against the Colts when we're up by 17, not knowing we had a timeout against the Vikings before Sage throws the endzone INT, and that horrible pass play on 1st and goal at the 1 against the Ravens. I'm sure I'm forgetting some. How many times can you honestly say Gary Kubiak outcoached his opponent during his regime? What happens if Bill Cower shows interest in coming back? Do we go in a different direction?
I say give him one more season or Better players (O-Line,Secondary,Running Back) Because there is no doubt he can run an offense!
line up the truck to Cower or Shottenheimer (sp?). This team makes too many mistakes and has more than enough talent to be mediocre. Right now, we are plain pathetic.
With the way the last 2 games have gone done, we may be headed to 11 or 12 losses. After an 8-8 season, that is not acceptable and ultimately, Kubiak needs to be held responsible, even if the QB play and defense aren't directly his fault. You can't start all over with personnel, so your only other option is the coach(s).
I think its time for a change. IMHO the Texans are one of if not the most underachieving team this year. This should be a pretty attractive gig.
well, what do you expect him to say? "we saw again today why sage rosenfels is a career back-up..."? i mean... i have to assume he's trying to deflect blame away from his players, that it's an empty statement. this team isn't built for bill cowher. you would have to start completely over - AGAIN - and that's assuming cowher can oversee such a rebuild, something he's never really done. no thanks. they had, before today's game, a top 5 offense. they need a healthy schaub - that's the offense's biggest concern. defensively, however, it's probably time to make some tough evaluations about the players and coaches. my guess? they'd like to replace at least 6 starters AND move ryans outside. and that's assuming a full return from robinson, probably next year. that's more than half your starters. and they also, obviously, have a decision to make about the coaches. teams sometime - oftentimes - take steps back before making the leap. i still think they have a lot of parts in place but still need a lot more. but cowher isn't one of them. (btw, thank you, richard justice, for dropping cowher in everyone's lap - i look forward to reading/hearing about him everyday for the next 7+ weeks here and on the monsters of the midday........)
Gary Kubiak is the Craig Biggio of the NFL. If I ever hear him say"that's football", it wouldn't surprise me. Its the same thing after every loss.
I'm not a big fan of coaching changes especially 3 years after the last one. Kubiak has improved the offense but even so it lacks an identity. The texans don't have the denver bronco's running attack or the saints passing attack. It's a slightly above average offense. My biggest issue with Kubiak, as most agree, is his clock management skills and his challenges. I've never seen a guy miss on more challenges. You would think one these experienced coaches like Ray Rhodes, Alex Gibbs or even Mike Sherman last year would show Kubiak a few common sense clock mangement skills. The defense is god awful. I don't know if its personnel or defensive scheme but its a joke. Unlike Dom Capers i do still believe Gary Kubiak can turn this team around. However, if he loses 11 or 12 games it'll be hard to justify it. As of today i would fire the defensive staff and give him one more year. Of course let's see how bad they end up finishing.
actually, prior to today's game, it's the nfl's 4th best offense (statistically). they've killed themselves with turnovers - that's the difference between 3-6 and 5-4 or even 6-3. and a good chunk of them have come from their back-up QB. other than schaub's health (where did i see someone call him matt taub, which i thought was pretty funny?), the offense is in good shape. top WRs, a top TE, a decent ground attack with a playmaking RB.... and when healthy, a top 10 QB.
I think it's pretty obvious that the Texans must make some changes. It's the same thing over and over again. Turnovers in the red zone, stupid penalties, a defense that cannot stop the run or get any turnovers...... Richard Smith needs to be fired tonight. Kubiak won't be far behind if this continues.
I do question Kubiak's head coaching abilities. No doubt the offense is better statistically, but we're constantly plagued by boneheaded turnovers. The gameplanning, when we pass and run, clock management, goind for it on 4th down, and challenging plays have all been suspect. I believe Richard Smith will be fired in the offseason (if not before) and Kubiak will be given one last chance. And that means a winning season or playoff berth. He won't be able to come back and go 8-8, say it's improvement and keep his job.
He really said that again..? Unreal. If the Texan finish the season strong somehow then give him another year -- if they play like they did today ... show Kubiak the door.
Unless we get blownout every game here on out, Kubiak gets a pass this year, then he's definitely on the clock next year. Richard Smith will be axed after this year, and rightfully so. Any possible suggestions for the new Defensive Coordinator?
Completely bogus. Sage and Schaub had about the same QB rating last year and they had about the same QB rating going into this game this year. The difference between the two is that Schaub can't stay healthy so saying "when healthy, a top 10 QB" is the same as akin to saying Ahman Green "when healthy, a very productive back". It's ridiculous. In fact I think these 14 QB's are better than Schaub and you could probably make an argument for the likes of Campbell and Delhomme. Philip Rivers Jay Cutler Drew Brees Brett Favre Tony Romo Aaron Rodgers Eli Manning Peyton Manning Matt Ryan Donovan McNabb Ben Roethlisberger Marc Bulger Carson Palmer David Garrard
Agreed and something has to be done at QB. Either one or both of them must go. RosenCarr was a complete dog today.
two big, key differences: schaub's not a 31-year old RB and he's not missing games because of nagging, recurring injuries. his injuries are the result of hits; two of which were illegal. seriously? and i think he's (arguably) better than palmer (also hurt a lot) and certainly better than garrard, who's a game manager; nothing more. there are guys on the list clearly better and others having clearly better (healthier) seasons. but he's in the same mix as cutler, rivers, rodgers, ryan.
a few points 1. this team would have to be built first before you begin to "rebuild". We haven't built anything yet. 2. our offensive stats came against the worst teams in the league. quit it with the top 4/5 offense crap. Our QB's suck and throw the ball more to the opposing linebackers than they do to an offensive player in the end zone. 3. don't credit richard justice with what any intelligent football fan would ask for. We just want a quality coach so that if we know we are watching a losing team, there at least will be a payoff.
