I think it is probably the perfect time to build the rockets team. Many expiring contracts, lack of a superstar...

Morey collected assets to trading for a superstar, such as Melo, Bosh, ... But, apparently, He's unable to do it. I remember He just got his contract extension. Les wouldn't fire him in near future. The only way left is to draft our own superstar. If the rockets can get a top 3 pick next summer, ...

Many people probably don't want to tank. That's good, and the current rockets don't need to intend to tank to a get a top 3 pick now.

We are rebuilding, just not in the traditional sense.

it's the perfect time NOT to stand pat.

Not rebuild, just make the trade for Melo. Rolls the dice Morey.

If the Rockets could make the trade for Melo right now, I'm sure they would. They certainly would have before. That is controlled by the Denver/Melo dynamic. Getting out of the gate strong and looking good by February was going to greatly help Morey's case... bad early start, but it is only 4 games.

True. But no one will remember the first four games. By Nov 16th, we'll be 5-5 or 4-6. Probably 5-5.

These guys for whatever reasons over the years have been traditionally slow starting out of the gate - can you recall the last time we had a fast start in the Yao era?

Let's do an NBA superstar inventory, shall we? And I'll even use the term "superstar" very loosely...

    Kobe - impossible to acquire
    LeBron - impossible to acquire
    DWade - impossible to acquire
    Pierce - impossible to acquire
    Wall - impossible to acquire
    Durant - impossible to acquire
    Howard - impossible to acquire
    Dirk - impossible to acquire
    DRose - impossible to acquire
    JoeJ - impossible to acquire
    Duncan - impossible to acquire
    PGasol - impossible to acquire

    Now it gets interesting...

Roy - DM attempted to draft him but was f#$cked over by Pritchard
Stoudemire - DM tried to acquire him, but he refused to take a physical on his knee
Bosh - DM tried to acquire him, but he decided he'd rather play with one hand in LeBron's jock and the other in DWade's

That leaves us with the only "superstar" players Morey even has a shot at right now...

Melo - Denver's obviously not ready to give him up just yet
    DWill
    CP3
    Granger
    Nash
Arenas - c'mon, are we that desperate? (ok, maybe we are :) )

Bottom line: Acquiring a superstar is no easy task. It's damned near impossible. But for the first time in Morey's tenure, we have enough desirable assets* in place to tempt a struggling team as the deadline approaches.

    * Assuming they don't play their way to "undesirable" by then.

    Current state of Rockets:

Not rebuilding, not contending, not winning, no future, no plan, no clue.

LOL, JVG is even worse, much worse. JVG turned a team with two superstars into a big pile of poop.

As much as I hate to admit it, it might be about that time. The worst case scenario for this team would be for them to be a middle of the pack team. That is, in my opinion where the team as currently composed, would end up (regardless of Yao's health). Either make a move for Melo (would we be true contenders?), or trade away our veteran talent for picks/young talent.

Lol, we need 60+ losses for a top-4 pick, and we've only got 4.

This team has been poised for a rebuild for awhile. Multiple assets ready to be traded for the next superstar that shakes loose from his team. If Denver was ready to pull the trigger, we'd be rebuilding right now. But, it's hard getting the superstar. This is a rebuild-through-trade, while you're advocating a rebuild-through-draft. Unfortunately, we can't really do both. If we tank like you want, we'll devaluate all the assets on the roster.

Not yet, to answer the question, but we will find out in a month or so. If we don't start winning, and winning alot, it may be time to rebuild.

If so, how about we attempt to get the first round pick? Check out the vids of Harrison Barnes and Perry Jones, both Freshman. They are sick, especially Barnes. If you haven't seen these 2, you need to watch this. I'll be interested to see how they progress in college.

not sure if this is how u insert vids...

Something like that. Morey had a plan based on how free agents had been acting for the last ten years, but this Summer changed all that. This Summer was all about glamor and dream teams. Who would have thought Bosh would be OK with Bosh being Bat Man, LeChoke being Robin, and him being Alfred?

Who would have thought Bosh would be OK with Wade being Bat Man, LeChoke being Robin, and him being Alfred?
