As i remember Morey brought this guy here with every intention of making him a defense first type player. hes fast, has quick feet and is incredibly strong :D, i kno his offense is lacking but look at the birdman... we just need a backup behind yao that can change shots and dunk flat-footed under the basket. i kno dorsey is only 6' 7", but so was denis rodman. plus hes got a super long reach 7' 2" if i remember correctly and for anyone else who went to the open practice the guys got some hops. after seeing how very little basic skill he actually had on the CD video. i honestly believe that an entire year plus summer of training will get this beast a little more under control on defense, which is honestly all im looking for, maybe a little jump hook. but we have enough offense coming off the bench, let him hustle his butt off on D, scrap for offensive and defensive rebounds and dunk off alley oops and put backs. and maybe a few carl landry style pick and rolls. People need to remember that our staff has put quite a bit of time into this athletic monster. i dont kno if he can be our backup c, but im not writing the guy off so easily.....plus hes supposed to be Ray Lewis with a basketball ;)

just some extra motivation, i love this video :)

From his press conference after the season:

Q: Where does Joey Dorsey fit in

A: he's not someone in the plan because obviously he's someone who hasn't contributed. he's struggled with injuries to both feet. for you a young player like him, sometimes that's hard to handle mentally. i don't think he handled it well. i think he needs to get stronger mentally. he's got to prove things to us that he can contribute, and so going into this offseason i see his upside the same upside when we drafted him. we think he can be part of a pretty unique up-tempo unit. he's a defensive force as a team defender, he can get out in transition. all the reasons we drafted him are still htere. but he hasn't done anything in the NBA. so there's no way I'm going into next season thinking joey is going to give us something. he's got to give us something first. skill-wise, he's like von. we feel he's like the future of how bigs could look. but having the athletic ability, that does me nothing. he's got to show he has the commitment to get out there and be focused and help us.

Is it possible for Joey to break into the rotation at any position?

    I think that's a better question.

wow, that's kind of a negative overall, it just further reinforces they probably don't think we need size much and most importantly, if he's right, then Yao's future could be full or smaller, quicker, and stronger centers/pfs, not good.

sure why not anything is possible. I think having him as a back up center is going to be great. He has the whole summer. The season doesn't start til October so he has enough time.

He obviously has the physical skills from what I saw when he played at Memphis, but it looks like his problem is between the ears. He was a defensive beast in college.

Will Joey Dorsey be working as a janitor before he turns 27?

    That's an even better question.

    Dorsey will be heard from.

he didn't get where he is by being a slacker.

Dorsey's offense is on par with Chuck Hayes but Joey's defense is way below Hayes. That is why Dorsey gets no minutes and is below Chuck on the depth charts. If Joey can't play better Defense than Hayes then he is useles. So far he is a bust and he has a really bad attitude. Dorsey refused to allow the vets haze him, which is a common rite of passage for rookies and he also talks too big for a rookie with no playing time.

Joey needs to really work on his game this summer and his attitude too.

I know you are joking but realize Dorsey makes $800,000 a year and has 1 more guaranteed year left and 2 team option years. Joey is guaranteed to make 1.6 million and as high as 3-4 million.

Most of us wont make that much money in our lifetime. He is fine as long as he doesn't live the NBA lifestyle.

Cook has a unique talent, he is the only Rockets big man who can shoot 3s so he can get some PT on special occasions. Dorsey can't play offense and his defense is subpar. He can't do anything better than Hayes who gets very little PT himself.

The dorsey draft just illustrates the mistake the rox made. If they wanted a project, they couldve had a 7ft 20 yr old project name Deandre Jordan.Has maturity issues, but he's big, cheap, athletic and 20. When howard comes out, they have gortat and nothing changes. When Nene comes out, birdaman comes in and nothing changes. When odom comes in, one of the most skilled bigs in the league in now playing center.Show me the last championship team had a 6'6 backup center.

We had Deke as backup center, who is better than either Gortat or Birdman. It's not the rockets fault he blew out his knee. If Gortat or Birdman were lost to injury, the magic and nuggets would be exposed at backup C too.

The 2004 Pistons had a 6'7 starting center (the player Dorsey was often compared to in college), and often pair him with a similarly-sized Corliss Williamson.
