Is it only me that coach Mchale is a morose, pessimistic person?

I did not see him talk too much before and I am not going to say he gives me creeps, but he always seemed unpleasant and negative.

If management completely flipped my roster, I wouldn't be too thrilled either. His core is gone, and his least favorite player is still here. He knows that his chances with a boatload of rookies are not good.

I disagree, but I originally thought that. Look at his interviews or listen to him. His demeanor isn't nearly as pessimistic as his transcribed interviews make him out to be. He actually seems quite upbeat when he's on camera. Just goes to show you how much voice inflection and body language means in communication.

Empty optimism doesn't win games. But a sense of urgency -- which is what I would call it, instead of "pessimism" -- is important to get ppl focused to practice harder.

I don't think McHale is saying that 'negative' stuff for the sake of fans, but for the locker room. What do you want him to say? "It's going to be great, and it's okay to tank, and you have 2-3 years to realize your potential so don't feel bad if it doesn't pan out soon, don't worry about it!" That kind of talk is not only worthless but terrible for developing young players.

I don't call McHale's attitude "unpleasant" but rather "uncomplacent." Competitive ppl just hate losing.

IMHO, a coach should be less hyped because he wants to get his team to work hard. Although his tone does sound more optimistic than interview scripts.

So if a coach isn't spewing rainbows about the youngest roster in the league that just got thrown together, he's morose and pessimistic? Maybe it's just because you aren't realistic. Being realistic is probably one of the reasons that he has gotten where he has gotten. McHale = Hall of Famer. BornTexan = not Hall of Famer. I'll take his results.

If Lin's knee is not a problem, I don't know why he brings it up to the public.
    I'm worried about it.

It's refreshing how McHale doesn't merely spit out the blandly optimistic answers that so many front offices/coaches regurgitate these days. He's giving realistic assessments (maybe skewed a bit down since he is incentivized to lower expectations assuming he wants to keep his job). It's better than listening to someone like the Net's GM say they are going to win the championship this year (or that they are legitimate contenders). Why prefer hype to reality? He's not negative for sure. McHale even said the goal is to make the playoffs this year (pretty optimistic, no?).

I kinda agree with you. He may have strained it or maybe there's more swelling than normal. Hope it doesn't get worse during the season!

I wouldn't say Mchale is a pessimistic person, but more of a realist who been around the league so long and knows what to except and what probably will happen later on.

Am I the only one that caught Mchale saying that he was very impressed with Tony Douglas? My guess the 3rd PG spot is between Machado and Livingston. I watched Livingston a lot when he was with Clippers, If it is up to me, I will give young blood Machado a nod.

McHale doesn't really need to do squat. just work on his post-game interviews and try to contain himself when the wins start pouring in. just don't say something stupid like “I'm going to ride him like freakin' Secretariat.”

Mchale speaks the truth, I like how he doesn't sugar coat things. It's up to our players to earn his praise.
