    It's Miller time!!!

Reggie Miller, will be a free agent this summer and I believe the Rockets should make a sincere bid for his services.

Reggie is everything the Rockets are not:

    1. CLUTCH SHOOTER. This guy is a constant threat on the court. Defenders can't take their eyes off of him or else he is going to torch you. Reggie has been a deadly shooter despite the fact that he has never really been on a team with a dominate inside player, jury is still out on J. O'neal, who demands constant double teaming. Imagine how this guy would do playing with Yao Ming. Ming always is doubled/tripled teamed and is ready to give an outlet pass to a perimeter player. Imagine if that player was Reggie. Remember, this guy holds the record for most 3 points made in the history of the NBA.

    2. EFFICENT PLAYER. Look at stats below. Reggie is still one of the most efficient perimeter players in the league. The guy shoots a very decent 1.38 points per shot, does not turn the ball over averaging less than 1 turn over per 30 minutes a game, which is amazing. Not only that, he distributes the ball the few times in a game he touches it by accumulating the 2.4 assists per game. Another part of the game, I love about Reggie is that he can play without the ball. He doesn't need many touches, often moving and positioning himself away from the ball to drag his defender away from the ball, hence off the ball movement, which this team is clueless about.

    Reggie’s Statistics 2003
    12.6 points per game
1.38 points per shot out put
    .94 Turnovers
    2.4 Assists

    3. SAVVY VETERAN. This guy has been to the finals, has been named one of the 50 greatest players of all time, one of the better ambassadors of the game, and could be a good teacher because he knows all the little tricks of the game.

CONCLUSION: Reggie, brings everything that this team lacks: perimeter shooting, clutch shooting, efficiency, and leadership. Reggie, is still one of the top 3 perimeter shooters in the game and probably will be as long as he plays. If we are going to bring in another player, lets bring in someone who's talents would match the needs of this team.

It will be difficult to pry Miller away from Indiana but Welch has 3 other players, who also happen to be the star players on the Pacer, who will be free agents this summer. Two of those players, Jermaine O'neal and Brad Miller, will be asking for the max. While Ron Artest, is a restricted free agent and most likely will be kept for next season. It's a possibility that Miller will be asked to take a major pay cut to keep the team below the luxury tax.

If I had to offer a trade how about:
    Houston receives <--- R. Miller
    Indiana receives <--- Mobley/Nachbar

I'm sorry, but I think Reggie Miller is done. He faded down the strettch and dissappeared in the play-offs.

If reggie accepts a 2-year contract in a sign n trade, I'd be tempted to make a Mobley for Miller trade.

I was actually thinking about this yesterday. He's an excellent compliment to Steve and Yao. His FG% would improve because both Steve and Yao draw double teams, meaning he NEVER has ANYTHING more than single coverage. Imagien the picks that Yao could set for him, or maybe even Posey?

I'd love to have him, however, I think he wants to retire a Pacer.

reggie will retire as a pacer, although he would be invaluable to the rockets, who have the combination of big man, slashing guard that would make reggie miller a very deadly third option

It was reported that Reggie was slowed down due to ankle injury last season. But I agree, he might retire a Pacer. However, the chances of winning a championship for Reggie are slim if he stays in Indiana or another Eastern Conference team.

    REGGIE?!?

I thought this was an Andre Miller thread.

Damn, we do not need an over-the-hill spot up 3 point shooter. We already have one of those!!!!!

    :p :p :p

Reggie Miller was an awesome player but we don't actually have a use for him. He won't be around for title contention (whereas Mobley and Nachbar would be), so all he'd be doing is giving us worse draft picks in the mean time. Or is it just that you want to get rid of Mobley?

Yeah, he's good. Not the same old Reggie that he used to be, but still ...

Somehow I don't know if the Rockets system would be a good match for him, though. He's not a spot-up shooter as much as Indy maps out plays where he runs through a forest of picks to get open and then catches & shoots.

Also, where's his defense? I doubt JVG would want to play him if he isn't gonna be a force on both sides of the court.

Personally, I love him, though. Great player. I hope he retires as a Pacer.

 A two year deal for a guy who turns 38 in August and is coming off of his worst season ever, can't play defense, who can only play limited minutes, who scores 12 points a game at 44%, in exchange for a guy who is 10 years younger, scores 18 a game, is a decent defensive guard, and shoots 43%?

Did you see how bad he looked in that Celtics series? he shot like 20% from the field. It's like when Olajuwon was getting his shots blocked by Ostertag near the end of his career. It's been a good road, but its over man, way over.

I wouldnt mind signing him to a cheap deal and have him come of the bench. No way I would want him to start though.
Trading Mobley for Miller would be the worst deal in team history, please dont tell me you were serious about that. If we had to trade someone, the most I wuld give would be a Collier or Hawkins. Rice for Miller would be good, but would never happen.

This team needs some vetern leadership and Reggie would fit in well, but coming off the bench as a 6th or 7th man.

He's 37 years old right now.

I'd rather keep Mobley.....who is part of the future..and is only 27 years old.

We are expected to contend seriously in three years! By then.....Reggie will be gone....

    I'd do a sign-and-trade......Moochie for Reggie. That's it.

Okay Okay...so he is old, but he still logs in 30 minutes a game and when he does play, he is an efficient player.

As I see it, we need good role players who know how to shoot the ball. We don't need another athletic talent who can dunk the ball. Maybe, Reggie is over the hill, but he still can hit the outside shot better then almost anyone in the league. Look at Steve Kerr, he is old and probably slower than Reggie, but he is still a valuable asset to the Spurs in the playoffs. When it comes to spot up shooting it has more to do with pose and natural shooters touch and nothing to do with youth or speed or athletic talent. Players like Reggie, Kerr, Peja have that. It's the abilities of the coaching staff and players to utilize these types of players that make them so dangerous.

I think we need to get away from looking at players who are good at everything but not great at anyone particular skill. Look at Portland they have arguably the most talented and versatile players in the league. But, none of them are pure shooters and none of them are that great at defense, unless you want to consider Paterson a great defender. Even though they have a lot of talent they are missing key components in their game which is why they are not as good as the Lakers, Spurs, Kings, or Dallas.

What I am deriving at is that Reggie will be a great shooter regardless of how fast he is or how great he defends or how old he gets because he has the shooter touch. Although, Rice is a decent shooter, I don’t think he is anywhere near as dangerous as Reggie. If you watch tapes of the games, on offense, there is always a defender shadowing him close because they know if he gets the ball and has an open look he is going to shoot and there is a pretty good chance it is going in the hoop. Rice doesn’t get nearly as much respect because he is more of a streaky shooter.

While that used to be true, it's not anymore:

    3 point shooting:

    16. Glen Rice, HOU 101- 254 .398
outside the top 50 Reggie Miler, IND 113-318 .355

And he's not too much more efficient either:

    Rice 24mpg 9ppg = .375 ppm on 43% shooting
    Miller 30mpg 12ppg = .4 ppm on 44% shooting

Look, the Reggie Miller of old was a great player, and I don't doubt that he might still be an effective veteran role player in the 4th Quarter of the NBA finals in very limited minutes for the veteran minimum.

Houston isn't at that stage right now, and if you plan on him being a starter or even a regular in your guard rotation during the regular season, and giving up Cuttino Mobley to do it and you've got Glen Rice to play essentially the same role; well, then your team has got some issues.

I would much rather just keep Glen and Cat over Reggie any day. Reggie would be a horrible fit for our system. He needs a system revolving around setting double and tripple picks for him, not one in which Yao or Steve is isoed and the other 4 on the court wait to spot up.

My thoughts exactly. Besides, 3 picks in a week is a tripple pick for the Rockets!:)
