Is it me, or do most cities have at least one snakebit pro sports franchise?

I was thinking about the continual letdowns by the Astros, and how they always seem to let houston fans down...and it seems every big city has one team that just is somewhat cursed thorough their history...(note, just because one of these teams may have had a long period of just being bad, doesn't mean they're cursed, I'm refering to teams that have had much heartbreak and cities that have at least 3 pro teams)

Houston--the Astros (Rockets have had much glory, anf the Texans have yet to have an identity....I think it will be much different than the Oilers because of a better owner in McNair...a great GM in Casserly and a great quarterback in Carr, while the Astros are 0-for-whatever in their playoff history, heartbreak in 80, 86,98,99 and 01 in the playoffs...and currenly blowing their current season in which there were great expectations)

Dallas--The Rangers (because the Cowboys, the Stars, and the Mavs has had more success, where the Rangers can only get to the Division series vs the Yanks 3 times only to lose, and then sign A-Rod, only to continue finishing in last, the Rangers are the snakebit franchise in this town)

Detroit--the Lions (the Pistons once again strike it rich, the Tigers arent cursed, they've won it all before, they just sucked recently...and then this year, they come back to the pack, the Red Wings have had great success, while the Lions had the Utley heartbreak and the playoff failures, and the sudden Barry Sanders retirement)

Cleveland--the Browns (the Indians have made the WS a few times in the last decade, the Cavs get Lebron, (one could argue the Cavs are cursed because of what MJ did to them, but getting James might erase their curse)....The Browns are the Browns...

New York--the Jets (Giants, Yankees, Mets, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Islanders, have had longer periods of success), the jets have won a ring also, but in the past 30 years,,,they've usually come up short...and when they had their best team in 98, they could only make it to the AFC championship....I might get some disagreement here)

St. Louis--the Blues (The Rams and Cards have been successful in this town, while the Blues has always choked in the playoffs in recent years even though they had Hull)

    Boston--The Red Sox (enough said)

Phoenix--The Suns (yes, and not the Cardinals...the Suns have had a lot of heartbreak...losing the Kareem sweepstakes...to losoing the 76 Finals.....to blowing big series leads vs Houston in 94 and 95)

Los Angeles--No one really, the Clippers dont care about winning..maybe they are the cursed team....but if they ever tried wanting to win..things could be different

Philadelphia--the Eagles (three striaght NFC champ loses, two at home, no championship, only an average team even though they had Cunningham and White. the Sixers, Flyers and Phillies have won titles)

Miami--the Dolphins (didn't used to be this way, but geez, they never get past the 2nd round anymore, if the wild card)

Minnesota--easy one IMO...the Vikings (The Twins have had great success in the past winning the World Series, the T-wolves are finally coming into their own as a good nba team....one could argue they are cursed, but they overcame their first round hurdle and made it all the way to the West Finals last year, the Wild are a new team trying to figure their identity...the Vikings have lost 4 SBs and had a 15-1 record in 98 and lost in the NFC championship...and last year they missed the playoffs after a 6-0 start, and in 2000, they were whipped by the Giants in the NFC championship.)

Chicago---The Cubs...(white sox are a close 2nd but the Cubs heartbreak history is more glorified and after what happened last fall, they are still cursed. The Bears just stink, but they've had success in the past and have won a SB..the Bulls just suck right now..but they arent cursed. The Blackhawks, you dont hear much about them)

Atlanta--The Hawks (They had Wilkins. but could never get past the semis, had some decent 90s teams, but they've always blown it in the playoffs while in Atlanta.)

Denver--The Rockies (playing in that thin air will always prevent them from doing well, no one can pitch their, so they are cursed, Nuggets have had tough times, but the Rockies will never do anything even though they want to win (IMO)

cities where I dont believe/or know if any of the teams are cursed

    Tampa Bay

    Pittsburgh

San Francisco/Oakland (although the Giants have had some heartbreak and the current A's get get out of the forst round but, they were awesome in the 70s and early 90s)

Charlotte (although I think the Hornets were cursed to some degree, but the Bobcats are a new team)

Washington (are the Wizards really cursed?,,they have won the title before, they just suck, the Redskins have had much success, maybe the Capitals are?)

I'd kind of think as the Mavs as being somewhat snakebit themselves. They have some success in the late 1980s and getting tantalizingly close to glory, taking on the Lakers in the NBA Western Conference Finals and all that, and then they fall apart, put up the worst record of the 1990s only to come back recently... But one year in the Conference Finals doesn't erase anything.

The Indians are a team that I would classify as snakebit. They win the World Series in 1948 and then make another appearance in 1954 only to go the next five decades without a World Series appearance. They start to get good only to lose several pitchers in a boating accident, they lose a potential World Series appearance to the 1994 work stoppage. They come back and play the Braves only to lose. Then, in 1997, they get into the World Series again against the Florida Marlin and lose it in Game Seven.

I think that's just as frustrating for fans as the Browns losing the AFC Championship on fairly flukey circumstances.

The city is Tampa, not Tampa Bay.

    Thanks,
    Management

Atlanta is the home of the cursed team. Before the 12-year reign at the top of the standings, the Braves were as awful as you could possibly be and are well on their way back to that thanks to a penny-pinching ownership by that damned AOL Time/Warner. The Hawks are as pathetic and inept a franchise as ever existed in pro sports. They will never become competitive again and are doomed to become the Clippers East.
