Is it mail fraud to write "return to sender" on a package? I bought something online but I don't want it anymore and want to return it. In order to return it you have to ship it and that costs money. The package hasn't been opened yet, and I know that writing "return to sender" on the package would get my package to the destination I need in order to return it. I'll save the shipping costs. Is it mail fraud to do something like this?
I'm not sure, but I don't think the sender is charged again when "return to sender" is written so there would be no reason for the seller to charge me for shipping.
Don't worry. It's a write off for them. They just write off everything. I don't exactly know what a write off is. But they do - and they are the ones writing it off.
You need to change your name to TheSkinflint0.000001 next thread from you: what dollar amount can I shoplift before it becomes a felony?
1st he doesn't wanna tip, now he doesn't wanna pay for return shipping. Next thread: Is it insurance fraud... if I drive my car into a lake? I bought a car, but I changed my mind and I don't want it anymore. Can I just drive it into a lake to get the insurance money and buy a car I really want?
if you didn't tip the mailman at Christmas, he'll probably just keep the package, and you'll get no credit for the return.
Normally to get a refund from an online purchase, you need to get an RTA beforehand. That has to go inside the package. Better check the details before you do this because otherwise you may be out the product and the money.
just to echo everyone else here. 1. its not fraud. you dont even have to write rts on it, just refuse delivery thats all 2. you are cheap
We've already had one user purposely drive his car into a ditch for that exact reason.....and get out of a car note.
Might save the money on the shipping back but the vendor is probably under no obligation to give you your money back if you didn't follow proper procedure for returns. I get trying to save a buck here and there but you are one cheap mofo.
You should check their policy on returns. If they don't subtract the shipping, then they may only issue credit, and not a refund, or they may charge a restocking fee.
