Or are the people with the Detroit Pistons organization bad at counting? They claim this is the 50th year anniversary of the team in Detroit, but shouldn't this be the 51st? Maybe it's just me, but if count all the seasons from 57-08 it makes 51.
It's just you. '57 was the beginning of the season and ended in '58, so it's from 57-58. This year it's from 07-08. So 2008-1958 = 50.
Well, the Rockets say they've been in existence for 41 years and they've been playing since 1967-68, exactly ten after Detroit Pistons. 41+10+51
This is (or was, depends if you think the regular season is technically over) the 2007-2008 season. 2007-1957= 50 years You don't think that an organization ,especially a professional organization with literally hundreds of employees, like that will carelessly miscount something like this, do you? Granted its the home of the most r****ded PA announcer in the world, but still, ya know?
Its 51 years. 1998 to 2008 is 11 years not 10. Just because 2008-1998 = 10 does not mean that it is ten years. Count on your fingers if you have to. The same goes for 1957 through 2007. That is 51 years, not 50.
1998 to 2008 is 10 years. when youre counting on your fingers you dont count 1998 99,00,01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08 10 YEARS

****, im not good at math lol but hey, it might just be 51 but like someone said it is detroit you know they are hood over there lol
To be perfectly honest, I think they mean its been 50 years, not that this is their 50th year. Why they would do it that way I can only imagine that they forgot to do it last year? Everything that I got from fan appreciation night had "50 years of history" on it. So maybe that's their mindset for it.
If the whole organization has NOBODY that could catch that ... well then they should hire someone from this board.
Their organization is correct. Hayesfan's chart shows the first line as 1, but that is not the same as anniversary. The 1st anniversary doesn't start until year 1 is over. In other words, label the first column as "Anniversary" and lower the values by one, and it all makes sense. The 50th anniversary of their existence started on the first game of THIS year (Nov 07).
There we go.. that makes sense.. so its not the 50th year of their team.. its the 50th Anniversary! Thank you. It was buggin. Now for UK we celebrated 100 Years of Basketball... which was different it celebrated the 100th season that the University fielded a team. (and probably why I was confused)
