Al Jefferson strikes me as a guy without a ceiling.
IMO he can be as good as the great centers to ever play the game.
His jump hook is a thing of beauty, and you can go to that in the 4th quarter...

Dwight is a natural superman, but has zero touch, and awful footwork...( Although He is without a doubt the best defensive C in the NBA)

I love Al Jefferson and was crushed when he landed awkwardly and blew out his knee. He is not the 2nd best C in the NBA. You must be on crack if you would take him before Dwight Howard.

Yah, until they make a statistic category call "Most doubled player in the NBA", I think Dwight is better.

I don't believe that Dwight can put a team on his back in the 4th. For that reason I'll take Big Al. I am on crack :)

What happens when they play eachother?

Dwight racking up stats against the crappy(small) Eastern teams does not impress me.

What happens when he plays Yao? Who is the dominant player head to head?
    Post those stats.

His rebounding stats are VASTLY overblown because his PF is freaking Rashard Lewis...
(Let us not get in to this debate AGAIN)

Head to head matchups isn't important really. Some players match up better against certain type of opponent. The important thing is how they play against the majority of centers out there.

I honestly doubt Yao can get those type of numbers playing on a Magics team but meh those type of arguments are all speculations.

What is Yao's stats against these "crappy" Eastern team? Horrible. Why? They front him.

Well, you'd think, what happens if they front Dwight? A dunk for the Top 10 plays.

Even when our power forwards sucked, *cough* Mo Taylor *cough* Cato *cough* Yao never had 20 rebounds performances like Dwight.

Dwight is special. Yao is special. Yao got limits though, but has cleary the skill set advantage. Dwight is younger, and got potential to become even GREATER.

    Now onto the topic...

no way Al Jefferson is better than Yao or Dwight. :)

Tough call. Does Jeffs O make up for Hows D? I'd have to go with Al. You dont want Dwight to be exploited from the line or being left open to take a shot when it matters.

From a marketing standpoint, you have to take Howard.

    i go with Al.

dwight is by far the better shot blocker and rebounder but Al is no slouch in those categories either.

Al is by far the better offensive player and also al is a hard hard worker and is a great team first guy too. he took a smaller contract because he felt he hadnt earned a max contract ...no one does that anymore these days.

dwight is a nice kid too but it seems he is tries to fake it too much and isnt the same guy he was a couple of years ago. and i dont mean that elbow the other night either.

You clearly haven't seen Howard play very much. He's done it often, not the way Yao & Jefferson do. He completely dominates the paint on defense and puts back every shot the Magic's perimeter player miss. It's incredible sometimes. Al Jefferson is good, but in his wildest dreams he won't rebound and block shots like Howard.

    Don't do drugs. ;)

The only thing that keeps D-Howard above Yao is the assumption that he can develop low-post moves (just like how Oden is assumed to explode anytime soon.).

If Yao was in the EAST he'll be having unstoppable night even with bad refereeing against him. Dwight plays in the east, and gets treatment. I like to see how good Dwight can be when he has to go up against the likes of Duncan, Shaq, Chandler, Gasol and tons of other big men or power forward that are miles better than the likes of Brad Miller as your main low post defender.

I'mma have to agree with Superstar on this one.

I love Yao to death but I am not a homer and I take him for what he is, an above good C with an incredible shooting touch, who can be easily taken out of a game with the front.

Every time this argument come up the only thing Yao fans have is to say is the face to face stats because Yao is behind in all the other stats that actually matter.

Describe to me how Howard "gets treatment" in the East. Looking forward to this.

Enough with this craps already. He been fronted by scrub Cs from the East before and lost that battle.

Most centers not named Hakeem can't put a team on their back in the 4th. Yao gets subbed out often because Adleman thinks he's a defensive liability.

Yao can't have unstoppable nights when he does play the teams from the East. What makes you think that if Houston was considered East, that he'd dominate?

    1. Yao
    2. Howard
    3. Big Al

Simple as that. Yao is better than Howard and it's more than just stats and head to head matchups.

What's the +/- for Yao vs. Dwight?

I recall recently hearing a player comment that Orlando was actually a better team without Howard on the floor. Maybe that was just disrespectful talk though.
