Is it a general consensus around the league that the Rockets should build around Yao?

I know that lots of people on this board thinks so.

Bill Walton, Dr. J., Mark Stein, Sean Elliot, Calvin Murphy, and numerous announcers from opposing teams......think so.

I am trying to figure out whether this is a general consensus around the league RIGHT NOW. There were doubters a couple of months ago, but it seems that after Yao's two great games against Shaq, his dominant performance against Hawks, Magic, and generally exciting play since his game against Minny, people around the league is regarding Yao as the man for rockets.

It also does not help that SF3 is having a tough year adjusting to a new system.

But obviously Yao is not comfortable with the role of being the man on the team.

I guess that the best solution is to have SF3 as the vocal leader of the team, meanwhile, let's work to get Yao 16-18 shots a game for the rest of the season.

Heck, he was averaging 15.3 ppg for his 1st 35 games this season. For the next 24 games, he averaged 19.8 ppg.

Only if SF3 can make similar progress then we are talking about an elite team in the west.

How do you know Yao is not comfortable being the man?

Yao was not comfortable taking the last shot against the Lakers. But of course, I don't think that they designed the last play for Yao to take a 22 footer.

And also at the end of the 3rd Q, SF3 was penetrating and kicking the ball back to a wide open Yao, Yao was not expecting the pass and the result was a TO.

It seems to me that SF really wants to defer to Yao at least in the lakers game, but Yao was not mentally ready.
